DONALD Trump has slammed the BBC’s coverage of the Iran war as “corrupt and fraudulent” in his latest attack against the corporation.
In a furious tirade against the state broadcaster, Trump claimed its coverage of his war in Iran was “criminal”.
At a press conference in the Oval Office he accused the BBC of being biased against a US victory in Iran.
“If you watch the BBC, it’s almost like they’re fighting us to a draw,” he said.
He continued his vitriolic accusations, adding: “It’s corrupt, fraudulent. It really is. It’s fraudulent. It’s not just fake. It’s beyond fake. It’s really criminal what they do.”
As White House criticisms of the BBC’s coverage mounted, its world affairs editor John Simpson also drew outrage for his reaction to the assassination of Iranian security chief Ali Larijani.
Larijani was killed in an Israeli strike on Tuesday, with Simpson posting a misguided response on X calling him “reasonable”.
The evil security chief oversaw the brutal crackdown on protesters in January which left over 30,000 civilians dead.
In a since-deleted post, Simpson wrote: “I’ve met Ali Larijani several times over the years. Yes, he was a top figure in a nasty regime.
“But he always seemed clever and reasonable – the kind of person you might want to negotiate a peace deal with.
“Is it a good idea for Israel to take out people like him?”
Four hours later, the post was deleted, with the BBC editor saying it had been “interpreted wrongly”.
Trump has long had it in for the Beeb, with tensions coming to a head in November when he launched legal action against the corporation for “doctoring” one of his speeches.
BBC’s Panorama screened footage which spliced together different sections of Mr Trump’s speech on January 6 2021, when rioters mobbed the US Capitol building.
The White House described it as “outright lies”.
Trump slammed BBC boss Tim Davie, saying it was a “terrible thing for democracy”.
Yesterday, the BBC submitted a request to a US court asking for the $10billion lawsuit to be thrown out entirely.
Its lawyers warned the legal action would have a “chilling effect” on the way it can report on the US President.
Trump used the St Patrick’s Day press conference to launch a furious attack on the BBC, as well as bashing Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
It comes as the US President ramped up the pressure on the UK to intervene in the Straight of Hormuz, a key trade route which Iran currently controls.
He blasted Starmer as “no Winston Churchill”, warning the PM made a “big mistake” not supporting the US in the Iran war.
The “disappointed” US president said the once “perfect” US-UK relationship has soured under Starmer’s leadership.
He accused the PM of making the wrong choice in the Middle East, saying: “He hasn’t been supportive, and I think it’s a big mistake.
“I’m disappointed with Keir – I like him, I think he’s a nice man, but I’m disappointed.”
Trump added: “You don’t have to send me aircraft carriers, send me a couple of minesweepers, we don’t need your aircraft carriers.
“He [Starmer] is sending them when there are no planes left, when the missiles are down to eight per cent.”
Pointing to the famous bust of Britain’s best wartime leader sat in his office, Trump delivered a final jab, saying: “Unfortunately Keir is not Winston Churchill.”
