Traveller fuming over ‘infuriating’ act after paying extra for legroom on a flight

A traveller has vented her frustration over an ‘infuriating’ problem after she paid extra  for legroom on a flight, only for three passengers to invade her space.

The airline passenger said she was flying with her sister and niece so they paid an extra €30 each ($A53.50) for seats with extra legroom on a four-hour flight to Spain.

But moments after take-off, a dad and his two kids decided to gather around the emergency door window, which was situated next to the trio.

‘The dad and his two kids decided that the emergency door window right next to us was the most fascinating thing they’d ever seen,’ the passenger explained on Reddit.

‘They stood there almost the entire flight, leaning over us, pointing, chatting loudly, and completely blocking the space we paid extra for.’

Despite asking the family to clear the row, and even getting the flight attendant involved multiple times, they refused to return to their seats.

‘I did ask him to move twice… I only got the flight attendant involved after they all got back, ignoring me completely,’ she said.

‘We had to call the flight attendant three times to get them to move, but they just kept coming back after a few minutes.’

However, the dad and kids refused to budge, lingering around us for the duration of the flight.

‘I am a 5’2 (157.5cm) woman, and he was a very tall man. I wasn’t afraid of him but I don’t like attention and confrontations and people were starting to stare at us, so I called the flight attendant,’ she explained.

‘The third time the flight attendant came to tell them to sit down, she was already p***ed off and warned them this would be the last time she told them to move.’

Her post was met with more than 2,500 comments – with many furious with the dad and his kids.

‘This is extremely infuriating. Not just the kids but even the adult is acting like an entitled brat,’ one said.

‘I’d be mortified if a flight attendant had to speak to me about the same problem (my behaviour) more than once, let alone THREE times,’ another shared.

‘Oh HELL no. I’m not sitting on a giant flying tube just to have a grown man’s a** in my face for four hours. I’m glad you kept calling the flight attendant over. If they wanted to see out of a window so badly, they should have paid for a window seat,’ one revealed.

‘I’m trying to understand the sheer audacity of doing this. I can’t even begin to imagine getting up out of my seat, going to someone else’s row, and looking out their window. And after being told no, doing it again. So freaking weird,’ another added.

Many suggested ideas on what to do, with one saying: ‘I would have just stuck my legs out and let them deal with it.’

‘I’m going to start kicking the air I paid for, and if your body just so happens to fill that air then it’ll be your fault,’ another joked.

Meanwhile, one traveller revealed how a flight attendant on their plane deterred passengers from lingering around the rows.

‘I remember flying from Boston to Puerto Rico and people were acting like this. The flight attendant came on the intercom about an hour in and said, “This is NOT a school bus, this is an airplane! You are to remain in your ASSIGNED seat for the duration of the flight! We WILL turn around if there is not cooperation”,’ they said.

Many were stunned by the cabin crew threat to turn the plane around if no one stayed in their seats – but one person confirmed: ‘My mum is a flight attendant. Unfortunately it’s a tactic they have to use often.’
