Hot Rod

Arsenal have been told to sign Real Madrid ace Rodrygo by their own defender Gabriel Magalhaes.

The Brazilian winger is set to be sold this summer and has been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Asked on the Podpah podcast if he knew anything about Arsenal’s pursuit of the winger, Gabriel responded: “I don’t. No, I don’t, not really.

“But I’d like obviously. Rodrygo is a phenomenon, for me. He’s not at Arsenal.

“If it depended on me, I’ve told people already, he’s a phenomenon.

“His name is mentioned a lot. If it was up to me, of course.”

Hato ‘home’ at Ajax

Arsenal target Jorrel Hato has hinted he is willing to bide his time before a big-money move.

The left-footed defender, 19, is wanted by the Gunners and early stage talks with Ajax have begun.

Yet Hato seems happy in Amsterdam, saying: “Of course you want to achieve things in the end, the Champions League, a World Cup and a European Championship.

“I still have plenty of time. I don’t think I absolutely have to win the Champions League in two years.

“In the Dutch league you have to show how good you are against the big clubs. Ultimately, I have to continue to develop the things I am already good at, so that it becomes top.

“How do I describe my time at Ajax? Ajax is home for me. I just feel at home here.”

Milner pens extension

James Milner has agreed a new one-year deal at Brighton.

It means the veteran will play Premier League football into his fourties.

Milner, 39, celebrates his birthday in January.

He remains in with a chance of becoming the league’s oldest ever player.

The record is currently held by Teddy Sheringham when he featured for West Ham aged 40 years and 272 days old.

Milner made just four league appearances last season due to injury.

Mbeumo ‘prefers United’

Sky Sports are reporting that Bryan Mbeumo is “leaning towards” a switch to Manchester United instead of Tottenham.

Spurs are discussing a move for the Brentford star internally after appointing their manager Thomas Frank.

But even though the Dane has moved across London, Mbeumo “still prefers” United.

However, Frank’s arrival at Spurs has made him more interested in going there than before.

Man Utd saw a £55m bid rejected and are preparing a fresh offer for the winger.

Quansah nears Liverpool exit

Liverpool star Jarell Quansah is involved in “concrete talks” with Bayer Leveruksen.

The German side are in need of a new centre-back after Jonathan Tah left on a free and joined Bayern Munich.

Discussions between the two clubs are ongoing but no deal is imminent with Quansah at the Under-21 Euros with England.

Negotiations are separate from Florian Wirtz’s £126m move to Anfield.

Plymouth appoint former Red Devil

Former Manchester United star Tom Cleverley has agreed terms on a three-year deal to become the new Plymouth Argyle head coach.

It’s understood the club are finalising the paperwork on his contract this afternoon and an announcement on his appointment is expected to follow.

Cleverley was out of work after being sacked by Watford at the end of last season.
