
A MAJOR motorway is clogged up with four miles of queues in rush hour chaos.
A stretch of the M6 is closed following a crash this morning.
Three lanes are closed on a southbound stretch of the motorway in Cheshire, from junction 17 to junction 18.
Cameras on the M6 show heavy traffic build-up as motorists commute in for the first day back at work after Christmas.
Traffic queues are currently stretching for six miles, according to National Highways.
There are delays of up to an hour, it warned motorists.
Emergency services are scrambling to the crash.
National Highways said on X: “M6 southbound between J18 #HolmesChapel and J17 #Sandbach.
“Three lanes (of 4) are closed due to a collision and barrier damage.
“Emergency services are en route.
“Delays of 30 minutes, four miles of slow moving traffic on the approach.”
In a later update, it said: “Vehicle recovery is en route.
“Delays are now just over 60 minutes above normal journey times, six miles of slow moving traffic on the approach.”
