MICKY VAN DE VEN left Tottenham fans believing a conspiracy theory after he narrowly escaped a second red card in as many games.
The defender was sent off at the weekend to see Igor Tudor’s side fall to another humiliating defeat as they edge closer to a previously unthinkable relegation.
That red card came with Spurs 1-0 up, and cost them as they went on to lose 3-1 to Crystal Palace.
However, against Atletico Madrid Spurs were already losing heavily when Van de Ven almost got sent off again.
He flew into a tackle on Dávid Hancko connecting on his shin with his studs.
A VAR check followed, but opted against recommending referee Serdar Gozubuyuk to send the Dutchman for an early shower.
