Linda Yaccarino, the chief executive of X, has quit the company.
The shock move came after just two years after she joined the social media platform, and she did not give a reason for stepping down.
Yaccarino announced the news in an X post, thanking Elon Musk for entrusting her with ‘the responsibility of protecting free speech’ through the role.
It comes amid an escalating public feud between X boss Musk and President Donald Trump, after their political alliance dramatically broke down in June.
Musk, once an ever-present ally to Trump as he headed up the Department of Government Efficiency, splintered from the president after calling his signature legislation ‘insane’. Trump’s ‘big beautiful bill’ was signed into law on Friday.
Announcing her shock resignation on Wednesday, Yaccarino, 61, wrote: ‘When @elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company.
‘I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.’
