A BASKETBALL clash in Gran Canaria has been postponed after Storm Emilia forced sports facilities on the island to close.
There have been hurricane-force winds, along with snow and rain, resulting in residents being urged to stay indoors.


And Dreamland Gran Canaria have confirmed that their Liga Endesa showdown with Kosner Baskonia, initially scheduled for tonight, has been called off.
The Gran Canaria Island Council decided that the top flight game could not go ahead because of the huge snow storm.
There have been reports of trees falling down, leading to roads being blocked and closed.
Dreamland Gran Canaria released a statement from the Spanish Basketball League on X.
It read: “The Gran Canaria Island Council has announced that the Liga Endesa game between Dreamland Gran Canaria and Kosner Baskonia, scheduled for this evening at 8pm, cannot be played due to Storm Emilia.
“The Council has ordered the closure of all sports facilities on the island, with no reopening date set.
“Given these circumstances, the ACB (Spanish Basketball League) has decided to postpone the game, and a new date and time will be announced soon.”
Dreamland Gran Canaria have one EuroCup title to their name, along with a Spanish Super Cup.

But they have lost three matches on the spin, with their most recent being a 79-72 defeat against Surne Bilbao on Sunday.
And Dreamland Gran Canaria have not registered a single win on the basketball court since November 8.
The meeting with Kosner Baskonia was due to be the final encounter at the Gran Canaria Arena before the turn of the year.
Dreamland Gran Canaria are scheduled to be on home soil again on January 3, when they host UCAM Murcia.
They were founded in 1963 and are based in Las Palmas, the capital of the island.
