A CHAINSAW-wielding thug who attacked a dog walker has been jailed.

Lewis Whitsey, 34, assaulted Paul Mills while cutting down trees near his home in Gospel Lane, Solihull, on May 28 last year.

The terrifying encounter unfolded after he inserted himself into a row between Mr Mills and a fellow dog walker.

Mr Mills was giving his cocker spaniel an afternoon walk when a dalmatian began to attack.

He admitted he nudged the dog with his foot to get him off his own pet.

But a scrap ensued with the dalmatian’s owner, which saw the owner punch Mr Mills.

Whitsey, who lived nearby and was neighbours with the dalmatian owner, got involved.

A court heard he told his friend: “Give me the nod I will do him, chop him up with an axe.”

He lunged towards Mr Mills with the chainsaw, revving it as he did so.

Mr Mills, who filmed the altercation, was struck on his shoulder and cut with the power tool.

He also wounded his hand as he reached for the chainsaw to protect himself.

However Whitsey had thankfully turned the blade off which meant there were no serious injuries.

The yob pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding but denied deliberately striking the dog walker.

He claimed he was injured accidentally during the brawl.

Chan Shoker, defending, also argued Whitsey’s anxiety had been a catalyst and “he doesn’t cope well under pressure”.

“He didn’t think through his involvement and acted, to a degree, on impulse,” said Mr Shoker.

“Mr Whitsey is prone to making poor decisions. Poor decision-making led him to commit this offence.”

But a judge sentenced him to two years in jail at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday.

He was also handed an additional two months for breaching a suspended sentence for burglary he received last year.

Judge Dean Kershaw told the court: “I am sure the defendant caused the injury with a deliberate motion with a chainsaw but not when it was running.

“It is so improbable the injury was caused in a scuffle in the way the defendant tries to describe it.”

The judge continued: “You only had to press that button and it could have all been very different.

“You don’t get a gold star for that. But it’s right you obviously had a change of heart.

“I bear in mind I think he was being aggressive.

“You are someone who said you are ashamed of what you did. I think an element of that is true.”

This comes as similar concerning scenes have been caught on camera unfolding in broad daylight.

Elsewhere, another chainsaw-wielding maniac was seen chasing after a cop in a terrifying murder bid.

Albanian national Liridon Kastrati hunted down PC Gary Cowan through the middle of a street in Paisley, Renfrewshire.

Terrifying footage shows the officer fleeing for his life as crazed Kastrati, 32, runs after him, shouting and pointing the running chainsaw in his direction.

And, we reported the terrifying moment a gun-wielding thug shot a man during a machete brawl in the middle of the street.

The alarming footage is akin to scenes from the wild west, but the horror actually unfolded in Birmingham last year.
