THERE are some brilliant deals at supermarkets this weekend, but it’s not easy to work out which is the best value.

Luckily, we’ve checked the prices for you.

Make room in your freezer and stock up while the price is right.

MEAT AND GREET: Treat your guests to a leg of lamb. It’s cheapest at Aldi and Lidl at £5.95 a kilo, with Morrisons just behind at 2p more.

If you prefer a pork loin joint, you’ll pay £4 a kilo with a Tesco Clubcard or £5 with Nectar at Sainsbury’s.

For those who prefer salmon, the best price is at Aldi at £11.24 a kilo, with Tesco and Asda just a penny more.

Five savvy tips to cut costs and waste when making meals for yourself

VEG OUT: Root veg, including 1kg carrots, 500g parsnips and swede is most likely to be discounted this Easter.

Aldi, Lidl and Morrisons have all these for 4p each. Spuds are 8p for a 2kg bag at the first two.

While at Aldi you can add XL garlic and a kilo of brown onions for 8p each.

Sainsbury’s has the same selection for 15p each, though the deal also includes a savoy cabbage for 15p with Nectar, instead of the usual 75p.

At Tesco, along with the root veg, you can add 375g broccoli or white cabbage to your trolley for 15p each with a Clubcard, saving 67p on the usual price of broccoli or 71p on the cabbage.

Asda is doing things differently, running a ‘five vegetables for £1’ offer.

PUT IT ON ICE: If you can afford to buy more than one joint of meat, stick the spare in the freezer for a future meal.

If you take advantage of the cheap spuds, parboil them and freeze them flat, then keep frozen in bags for another day.

The same goes for other excess vegetables.

Chop, then blanch in boiling water for a couple of minutes before plunging into iced water to cool.

Freeze flat before transferring to freezer bags.
