I’ve never been a sequin-dress person. As much as I love the idea of shimmering through December, the reality is I always feel a little too ‘full glam’ the moment I zip one up. A sequin midi skirt, however? That’s a different story entirely. It gives me all the festive sparkle I crave but with far more styling freedom, and crucially it’s something I can keep wearing long after the last party popper has snapped.
What I love most is how easy it is to dress a sequin skirt down without losing any of its magic. Instead of pairing it with something equally statement-making, I almost always reach for knitwear. There’s something about the contrast of high-shine sequins and soft cosy textures that just works.
An oversized V-neck instantly adds nonchalant balance, while a classic crew-neck keeps things polished but relaxed. On days when I want something sleeker I’ll go for a sleeveless knit or even a sheer roll-neck. And lately I’ve been loving the unexpected chicness of a short-sleeve polo-neck with a swishy sequin hem.
Come December, this is my favourite formula: sparkle on the bottom, softness on top – and these seven high-street options prove exactly why.
I fell in love with the floral details on this silver A-line skirt; I’d team it with this dark grey jumper, which features balloon sleeves and a hem that cinches to create a boxy silhouette, and finish the look with a pair of suede kitten-heel slingbacks.
Pale pink and burgundy is one of the season’s most striking colour combinations. I’d keep things simple and style this sequin midi with an off-the-shoulder knit in the same soft shade and add these patent-effect kitten heels for a pop of colour.
You’d almost mistake the colour of this sequin midi for black, but it’s actually a deep green, which is why I’ve paired it with this V-neck jumper in a similar hue – and finished the look with a pair of black suede court heels to soften the shine.
This calf-length skirt is finished with flowing fringes, so I’ve opted for a fitted, slightly-sheer high-neck to streamline the silhouette. Then I’d ground the outfit with a pair of brown suede court heels for a minimalist finish.
The gradient on this silver sequin midi instantly caught my eye, so I’ve played into that detail with a knitted polo top in a soft grey ombré. A sleek pair of grey patent-effect Mary Janes keeps everything polished without tipping into overly dressy territory.
To embrace the colour of the season, I’d style this sequin midi with a cardigan and leave the bottom buttons undone for a relaxed feel. To tie everything together – without overcomplicating the outfit – I’d finish with a pair of brown satin court shoes.
A black sequin skirt always earns its place in my wardrobe, and the lace detailing gives this number a more romantic feel. I’d wear it with this black short-sleeve polo-neck top and these black patent ankle-strap pumps.
