If there’s one category in my wardrobe that really earns its cost-per-wear, it’s sandals. I don’t buy a new pair very often, but when I do I wear them until they are hanging together by literal threads – which is generally after months and months of heavy usage pounding across the pavements of London.
My latest pair come from Dune, a brand which already seriously impressed me with its surprisingly comfy Loupa sandals (how can they be so lovely to wear without an ankle strap? I don’t know!). This time, I decided to try the Luno, a double strap, flatform sandal that boasts the excellent combination of looking both eminently practical and aesthetically pleasing.
If, like me, you have never been able to get on board with the ‘ugly shoes are cool’ trend – and instead choose to believe that ‘nice-looking shoes are nice’ – then these are a very good option. What’s more, even on my first wear they hardly rubbed at all, whereas I normally find that when I debut a new pair of shoes for work, I spend the walk home hobbling and cursing myself for not bringing trainers.

I’ve also had lots of compliments for them, so that’s nice. Of course you don’t just have to take my word for it – Instagrams fashion stars from Billie Bhatia to Katherine Ormerod are also Luno fans, choosing the suede-effect tan and dark brown pair respectively. You can also buy them in black or cream.

Such is the demand for the £99 sandals that Dune is now selling one pair every 30 minutes, with a 200% spike in sales over four weeks as the summer gets underway. Of course this may raise concerns of bumping into a hundred people with the same sandals as you every time you leave the house – but when they’re this chic and comfy, who really cares?
