But as it was a Christmas Special, the contestants also turned out to be celebrities; namely Mel Giedroyc, Paddy McGuinness and Richard Osman.

Mel was up first and got some help from Michael, who decided to break the rules to help her get the question right.

Sadly, she got her second question wrong and was sent back down below the studio stage, which gave Paddy the chance to have a go.

He got a number of questions right before he landed on Zara McDermott, who was in red and shutdown, meaning he was off the wheel too.

KILLER QUESTION

Richard then came up to play and got two questions right before he got a question wrong.

However, his misfortune meant Mel then had the chance to come back and she got the final category question right and cleared the wheel.

It meant she then had the chance to play for the £34,000 in the prize pot if she stuck with Zara, who had finished in the middle of the celebrity scoreboard, or £68,000 if she opted for Tim Vine, who had finished last.

It was a no brainer for Mel, who went all in and chose Tim to help her with the final question.

Their category was Christmas movies, but when they saw the question, Mel admitted she hadn’t seen any of them.

It read: “Which of these Christmas films stars Dudley Moore as an elf called Patch?”

The options for the answer were: Santa Claus: The Movie, Bad Santa, The Santa Clause or Santa Who?

Tim admitted he had only seen Bad Santa, before suggesting it could be Santa Claus: The Movie, as it sounded like the oldest of the options.

With Mel unable to offer any more insight, they opted to go for that once the time was up and Michael asked for their final answer.

Mel dipped her head into her arms and took deep breaths while waiting for the answer, but to her shock and relief, they were right and she had won £68,000 for her charity.

The Wheel airs on BBC One and is available on BBC iPlayer.
