The Trump Death Rumors Seemed Dumb, but Media Coverage Was Even Dumber – HotAir

Over the weekend, the left went on a tear, declaring–I kid you not–that Donald Trump had died. 

Trump had disappeared! Where was he? We hadn’t seen him in hours! 





It’s just an escalation of the chatter that has surrounded Trump ever since he was elected–media folks and Democrats suddenly paid excruciating attention to Trump’s supposed decline. They attempted this during Trump’s first term and are doing it again. 

This, from the people who kept telling us that Biden was as sharp as a tack. 

The media has spent more hours talking to Trump in any given week than they ever did with Biden during any given year. 

But Trump was off the radar, kinda-sorta, for a day, and the Democrats started the rumor that Trump was dead. 

Seriously, they were pushing that idea all weekend. It was insane. 

The idea, I think, is to keep the left in a state of agitation. I guarantee you that none of the people who started these rumors–and they were prominent Democrats and Pravda figures–actually believed that Trump was dead or dying. And if you live in the reality-based world, you didn’t either. Cover-ups on the Biden brain scale are hard enough to carry off, and it only worked with people who believe Pravda more than their own eyes. 





They did it for a reason.

The audience is the deranged left, and the point is to ensure that their grasp on reality remains as tenuous as possible. It is a variation on what we have been seeing for years now–a series of hoaxes intended to keep people in a permanent state of doubt. 

You don’t have media figures bombarding the president with questions about whether he is alive–yes, that happened–and former Vice Presidential candidates speculating about the issue without a reason.

Of course, speculations about the health of any president or public figure are hardly new. What made this incident unique was its ubiquity and the coordination. It’s one thing for randos to push out stupid theories like this; it’s another to have prominent figures such as the former VP candidate amplify them. 

This weekend, conspiracy theorists had a field day wondering whether President DONALD TRUMP was seriously ill, or even dead. Photos of the president were magnified, his voice was analyzed and his schedule was scrutinized.

Trump, of course, is very much alive but was compelled to address the rumors today during an unrelated Oval Office announcement that the U.S. Space Command would be relocated to Huntsville, Alabama.

“Last week, I did numerous news conferences. … And then I didn’t do any for two days and they said, ‘There must be something wrong with him,’” the president said.

Before today, Trump’s most recent “news conference” was last Tuesday during a Cabinet meeting. It lasted several hours.

Former President JOE BIDEN “wouldn’t do them for months,” he added. “You wouldn’t see him. And nobody ever said there was ever anything wrong with him.”

If this all seems strange, it shouldn’t. Suggesting the president is dead and replaced by a body double is a time-worn sport — but it’s becoming even more common of late.





When the media covered the Biden health issue, it was to cover it up.”Sharp as a tack” and “cheap fakes” were the words of the day. Trump? Wall-to-wall coverage of his non-death. 

As I wrote earlier this week, it is accurate to say that a psychological operation is being carried out. The goal is to keep people in a state of agitation, when people are most easily manipulated. It was the method used to keep people compliant during COVID, and the same goal is true here. 

The audience is not you, me, or even the average Jane and Joe. It is for the terminally online partisans who form the core base of the left. 





Democrats are losing traction with average people–even those who are not thrilled with Trump. They are flailing. 

So it is vital to keep their core partisans engaged. The midterms will not be decided by large numbers of people, and the Democrats need a base that is highly motivated. On top of that, the more agitated the left is, the more frustrated with the state of the country the “moderates” will be.

That’s how they got the “Trump is dead” meme trending on X, and when it is trending lots of people see it. 

So expect more of this sort of thing. The goal is not to get people to believe absurdities; it is to disconnect a lot of people from reality. It makes them highly manipulable. 

And that is the sole goal. It is not to get people to believe any one falsehood, but to make them unsure that anything is true.
