The Traitors’ Claudia Winkleman admits show bosses are forced to step in during her Traitor selection each series

WHILE Claudia Winkleman may be seen as the one with all the power on The Traitors, the presenter has revealed that show bosses actually intervene during the show.

When it comes to the selection of the traitors, Claudia says the decision isn’t fully up to her.

The host said: “It’s nerve-racking but I don’t choose them alone. I interview all the players and some are absolute desperate to be faithful.

“Anyone who convinces me otherwise is in contention.

“I then go into a small room with the bosses and an enormous tin of biscuits and we pick.”

On the show, Claudia is seen interviewing the participants before deciding which ones will be Faithfuls and Traitors, later tapping the latter picks on the shoulder around the infamous roundtable.

Admitting that this is just as nerve-wracking as it looks on-screen, she added: “The walk round the table is very tense.

“I can’t tell you how many times I walk around it but I really try and build the tension which is hideously mean but also quite addictive.

“I try and wear clompy footwear to add to it. It gets a bit flamenco. Alan [Carr] recently said I walk round the table like a carthorse and he’s bang on.”

Claudia is returning to the Scottish Highlands for a brand new series of the show, which airs on New Year’s Day.

It comes after the celebrity version of the competition was a huge success, with comedian Alan Carr winning the show.

And with the new civilian series comes a new twist in the form of a red cloak for the first time ever, something viewers saw a first sneak peek of this week.

In a new advert for the show, a person walking in a red cloak can be seen, despite the show usually only containing black cloaks for the Traitor contestants.

A source said: “Nobody knows what the red Traitors cloak means, what that player will do, how they will fit in or even if there is just one of them.

“But one thing is for sure, a different kind of Traitor in play will entirely change the game, again.

“The new twist creates distrust and treachery like never seen before.

“Bosses know that viewers and players alike know the game inside out so they have to keep everyone on their toes.

“In series three, that meant dispatching three players early doors on the train.

“All will be revealed in the very first episode.

“But anyone who first got involved via The Celebrity Traitors is in for a shock. The celebrities all played nice, but the civilians did the opposite – the new series is totally savage.”
