PROBLEM

‘Five years ago I was diagnosed with stage three tonsil cancer, and since then I’ve stuck to the same outfit formula: jeans and a nice top. Now I’m in remission and have got used to the changes to my body, so I’m ready to find my style again.’

SOLUTION

You don’t have to overhaul your entire wardrobe to transform your everyday style. Simple swaps can give a fresh feel. We switched Ruth’s white T-shirt for a scallop-trim shirt and, instead of her usual black jacket, we swapped in print.

Jacket, £22, primark.com. Shirt, £38, very.co.uk. Jeans, £39.99, newlook.com. Sunglasses (in hand), £15, marksandspencer.com. Bag, £30, and sandals, £36, riverisland.com

VERDICT

‘I’ve fallen in love with this jacket – the cut, the colour. I know it’s going to be my new wardrobe staple. I feel reinvigorated to get out there and try on new styles.’
