The Princess of Wales reveals how cancer journeys have ‘moments of fear and exhaustion’ but also ‘strength, kindness and profound connection’ in poignant message

The Princess of Wales has told cancer sufferers they are ‘not alone’ in a deeply personal message to mark World Cancer Day.

In the poignant video message, she reveals how a cancer journey has ‘moments of fear and exhaustion’ but also ‘moments of strength, kindness, and profound connection’.

She said: ‘On World Cancer Day, my thoughts are with everyone who is facing a cancer diagnosis, undergoing treatment or finding their way through recovery.

‘Cancer touches so many lives. Not only patients, but the families and friends and caregivers who walk beside them.

‘As anyone who has experienced this journey will know, it’s not linear. There are moments of fear and exhaustion. But also moments of strength, kindness, and profound connection.

‘Today is a reminder of the importance of care, understanding and hope.

‘Please know you are not alone.’

The princess underwent major abdominal surgery in January 2024 after which doctors found evidence of cancer and she underwent a course of gruelling preventative chemotherapy.

She announced the news personally in a video message that March.

In September the same year she also revealed the news that she had completed treatment but warned that her recovery and return to royal duties would be slow but steady.

In January last year she gave the good news that she was finally in remission but again asked for public understanding about her return to public life.

A source told the Daily Mail that although the princes had published a written message last year, this was the first time she had recorded something and described it as very ‘personal’.

The message is accompanied by footage from HRH’s visit to The Royal Marsden, of which she is joint Patron alongside The Prince, in January of last year.
