As you’ve probably heard by now, there was an explosion in Palm Springs, California which has been labeled a domestic terrorist attack. The target of the bombing was an IVF clinic.
Authorities are investigating a possible terrorist plot after a blast ripped through the American Reproductive Services building in Palm Springs shortly before 11am local time on Saturday.
Images of the scene show shattered glass and debris strewn across the street outside of the clinic. Black smoke can be seen rising from the building while firefighters battle to put out the flames…
Dr Maher Abdallah, who runs the clinic, told The Associated Press that the clinic’s office was damaged, but the IVF lab and stored embryos were not.
“I really have no clue what happened,” Dr. Abdallah said. “Thank God today happened to be a day that we have no patients.”

Why would someone bomb an IVF clinic? In this case there are clear answer to that question. We don’t have to guess because the bomber, identified as Guy Edward Bartkus, left behind a website explaining himself.

No, understand your death is already a guarantee, and you can thank your parents for that one. All a promortalist is saying is let’s make it happen sooner rather than later (and preferably peaceful rather than some disease or accident), to prevent your future suffering, and, more importantly, the suffering your existence will cause to all the other sentient beings.

Life can only continue as long as people hold the delusional belief that it is not a zero sum game causing senseless torture, and messes it can never, or only partially, clean up. I think we need a war against pro-lifers. It is clear at this point that these people aren’t only stupid, they simply do not care about the harm they are perpetuating by being willing agents for a DNA molecule. This should not be seen as tolerable to any intelligent and caring person. Don’t be fooled by the ones who play stupid and pretend they don’t understand these simple truths. It’s just their way of playing with you and saying “fuck you, we don’t care”.

Bartkus said the last straw for him was when his best friend killed herself (she actually had her boyfriend shoot her, apparently). Once the only person he really related to was gone he decided to follow and make a statement about his beliefs.
If you’re wondering, Efilism is just life spelled backwards. It’s the idea that ending all life is the most moral outcome because life is just random suffering and existence itself is meaningless. Naturally, all of the people who hold this view are very anti-religious and see no real purpose or value in their own lives or anyone else’s. They believe evolution apart from man is just as cruel as the man-made world of the 21st century so they seek the extinction of all sentient life.
The bomber’s father expressed surprise that his son was involved in this but also mentioned an interesting story from his childhood.
On Sunday, Richard Bartkus, 75, the father of the suspect, said he believed the voice on the recording was his son’s. Mr. Bartkus, of Yucca Valley, Calif., said that he had not seen his son in 10 years and that he had no idea his son had held opinions of the kind voiced on the recording. Earlier, Mr. Bartkus had said he was shocked when a relative texted him on Saturday that his son had been implicated in the bombing…
Mr. Bartkus described his son as having been a boy who liked tinkering with small model rockets, and said that in September 2009, at age 9, his son lit the family home on fire while playing with matches. “He burned the house down in Yucca Valley,” he said.
An article about the fire in The Hi-Desert Star of Yucca Valley said that the family lost everything, though Mr. Bartkus said no one was hurt. His son was placed on juvenile probation, but the incident was later expunged from his record, he said…
“He wasn’t dumb,” Mr. Bartkus said. “But he wasn’t a leader. He was a follower.” He added, “If somebody came along and said this was a good idea, he’d probably go along with it.”
Bartkus targeted the IVF clinic because of his anti-life views based on the idea that bringing a child into the world is the equivalent of rape, i.e. something done without consent. But he failed to extinguish even a single embryo.
