A black and white dress from Asda has been deemed the go-to look for summer after being dubbed ‘flattering on all body types’ and ‘effortless, stylish and seriously versatile’ by top stylists.
George at Asda’s black and white shell print maxi dress is a perfect day-to-night dress – and it only costs £38.
With a shell pattern, the look is extremely of the moment with high end brands like Mint Velvet and Anthropologie currently stocking very similar designs but at far steeper prices.
Mint Velvet’s cotton, V-neck dress features frilly shoulders and a cinched waist band with added brown accents but costs £150.
However, for those who want to join the shell trend there is a much cheaper and arguably more stylish option on the rails in Asda.
The open back dress dress from George handily features adjustable buckle straps and has two side slip pockets making the look not only chic but also practical.
Suitable for day and night, the bargain summer staple is made of breathable cotton meaning it is ideal for sunny getaways and hot days in the city.
The dress can be easily styled down for more casual outings by matching it with a pair of leather sandals or a pair of Mary Jane flats.

Actress Helen Flanagan is also a fan of George at Asda’s shell print dress and was impressed by the quality of the material
Helen Flanagan heaped praise on the dress when she recently teamed up with the affordable brand for a promotional Instagram post.
The actress was impressed by the bargain piece as her friend tried it on and twirled around to show off the flowing skirt.
Standing up to get a close up view of the item, Helen felt the material and said: ‘Babe, I love this. And, it’s such good quality as well isn’t it?’
The friend agreed with Helen and added: ‘I just can’t believe it’s from George.’
Though George is not widely considered the go-to place for fashionistas it is an open secret among those in the fashion world that the supermarket regularly stocks affordable season must-haves.
Asda outperforms other supermarket clothing ranges in the UK for good reason and now, more celebrities and influencers are starting to uncover hidden gems at the fashion label.
UK personal stylist and fashion expert Lisa Talbot is also a fan of George’s summer collection.
Lisa said: ‘The George at Asda summer dress collection is a brilliant blend of style, practicality and affordability, perfect for navigating a UK heatwave and then packing for your holiday.’

The back of the dress features a flattering open back with an elasticated strap

Helen’s pal styled the dress with a pair of simple nude heels and added a chunky gold necklace with matching bangles
Speaking specifically about the must-have frock Lisa added: ‘This monochrome printed maxi dress from George at Asda is the ideal warm weather hero, it’s effortless, stylish and seriously versatile.
‘The fitted bodice and full skirt create a flattering silhouette for all body shapes, and the statement straps add a contemporary edge.
‘Throw it on with sandals for day, or add a wedge and earrings for dinner al fresco & at this price point, it’s a wardrobe win.”
The popularity of George could be set to sky rocket too with the opening of their first ‘concept store’ at Crown Point Retail Park in Leeds a few months ago.
The new shop opened on 10 May to huge fanfare as the newly-wed Spice Girl, and Leeds native, Mel B turned up to support the venture.
As well as clothing the store also stocks homewares including the popular ‘At Home with Stacey Solomon’ collection.
However, the focus of the new concept store is certainly fashion with George’s spring/summer collection, which is fronted by 1980s supermodel Yasmin Le Bon, taking centre stage.

Mint Velvet’s shell offering features a similar pattern to George’s but costs £150
Discussing her involvement with the affordable brand, Yasmin said: ‘Fashion should be for everyone. George is a success story to be proud of.
‘I am passionate about clothes that can lift your spirits, and having fun with fashion should be for everyone. Wearing something you love can bring joy and a pop of colour can brighten your day. It’s a privilege to be a part of this celebration!
‘Shoppers want that high-end fashion feel without it having to cost the earth. George takes trends and makes them work in the real world.
‘Mixing high-end luxury and high-street fashion isn’t new, but it keeps getting better. There is something for everyone at George.’
Liz Evans, Chief Commercial Officer of George and Retail Stores, added: ‘We’re incredibly excited to have Yasmin Le Bon as the face of our summer fashion collection.
‘Yasmin’s timeless appeal resonates across generations, making her the perfect ambassador to represent our vibrant, inclusive, and fashion-forward pieces this season.
‘As proud members of the wider Asda family, we’re thrilled to be celebrating our 60th birthday—and partnering with an icon like Yasmin, who is also celebrating her 60th year, makes this milestone even more meaningful.’
