The ‘Most Secure Election in History™’ Had Some Big ‘Oopsies,” But Fear Not… – HotAir

Millions of Americans have bought the claim that the 2020 election was absolutely, positively, without doubt the most secure election in world history and that it was extensively audited.

If you know anything about elections, you know that this contention is absurd on its face. Not only were the rules under which elections were completely upended, often illegally, as it turns out, but there was zero time or inclination to conduct actual audits. Many states or regions took weeks to count the ballots the first time around, as you will recall, and there was no time or, in most cases, effort to verify the vote counts or the legality of ballots.

Is it possible that the results were, nonetheless, reflective of reality? Of course. But we will never know because massive efforts have been made to make it impossible to even check, and the number of irregularities in how the election was conducted was unprecedented.

A lot of controversy has swirled around Fulton County’s ridiculous performance in the election because the results in Georgia were critical to Biden’s win, and the sketchiness of the process was particularly obvious and egregious. Such as:

Five years after the counting for the 2020 election ended, Fulton County admitted a big “oopsie” in the process. Fulton is a heavily Democratic county that often determines election outcomes and is famously sloppy in how it conducts elections. It turns out that none of the election workers wanted to put their names on the vote counts that came out of the voting machines, making it impossible to know whether or not the counts coming out of the machines were real or not

Ann Brumbaugh, attorney for the Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections, told the SEB in the hearing that while she has “not seen the tapes” herself, the county does “not dispute that the tapes were not signed.” Brumbaugh continued, “It was a violation of the rule. We, since 2020, again, we have new leadership and a new building and a new board and a new standard operating procedures. And since then the training has been enhanced. … But … we don’t dispute the allegation from the 2020 election.”

Georgia’s Secretary of State Office investigated the alleged failure to sign tabluation tapes and “substantiated” the findings that Fulton County “violated Official Election Record Document Processes when it was discovered that thirty-six (36) out of thirty-seven (37) Advanced Voting Precincts in Fulton County, Georgia failed to sign the Tabulation Tapes as required [by statute],” according to a 2024 investigation summary. In addition to probing the unsigned tabulation tapes, the investigation also found that officials at 32 polling sites failed to verify their zero tapes.

Georgia law requires that election officials have each ballot scanner print three closing tapes at the end of each voting day. Poll workers must sign these tapes or include a documented reason for refusal. Voting laws also require poll workers to begin each day of voting by printing and signing a “zero tape” showing that voting machines are starting at zero votes.

If there is no record of whether the tabulator was set at zero at the start of polling, there is no way of telling whether ballots from a previous election (or ballots from a test run) were left on the memory card and might later be counted. Notably, this happened in Montana, where officials discovered more votes than were cast and believe the votes were leftover sample data that had not been cleared.

“These signed tapes are the sole legal certification that the reported totals are authentic,” Cross told the SEB at the Dec. 9 hearing. “Fulton County produced zero signed tabulator tapes in early voting.”

Cross stated that he obtained 77 megabytes of election records from Fulton County through an open records request that cost $15,800. According to Cross, these included 134 tabulator tapes, representing 315,000 votes. Each signature block on these tapes was blank, Cross said.

Cross also highlighted additional irregularities, such as polling locations being open at “impossibly late hours, like 2:09 a.m.” Cross also said that he found “duplicated scanner serial numbers, where the memory devices were removed from one scanner and printed on an alternate scanner.”

You have to love Fulton County’s response: they don’t dispute that the voting process and integrity checks were sketchy. They say “We have new people, so forget about it.”

Huh? I seem to recall that President Trump was being prosecuted for making claims about the voting process in Georgia, and that the whole “election denial” narrative that Democrats have slandered Trump with was based on his “lies” that have turned out, unsurprisingly, to be true.

Oh well, my bad. But Orange Man much Badder!

To give you an idea of how impossible an audit of the election in the time allotted would be, note that it took 5 months for Georgia actually to audit the 2024 election.

The entire 2020 election stank, and many of the changes made to voting processes were ruled to be illegal and reversed post-election. Some counties have gone to great lengths to hide the actual ballots for years, preventing any attempts to actually audit the election results. In Fulton County, it took a private citizen years to get access to the tapes from the voting machines themselves at great expense, only to discover that the process was totally insecure and there is no evidence—evidence that is legally required to ensure election integrity—that the voting machines started counting at zero.

Oopsie.

If there had been an audit, we wouldn’t learn this five years later. State and local officials insisted that everything was on the up and up and that they had checked. It was not true. And anybody with half a brain suspected as much from the beginning. The only reason that most people didn’t know it was that the establishment gaslit them for years.

Not that it will matter. Nobody who lies ever pays a price, at least when the lies further The Narrative™.

The sad fact is that once the election was certified and Biden was installed, there was nothing to be done anyway. Nobody was going to reverse the results in any case, because doing so would have started a civil war. That’s why no judge or central election official wanted to touch the case in a way that cast doubt.

That’s why voter integrity is so important. After certification, the practicalities almost demand that everybody pretend things were legitimate.

Democrats don’t want to ensure the integrity of the ballot or the voting process. We can speculate as to why—as if speculation is necessary, really—but the reality itself is indisputable. They fight against having to obey the election laws passed after the 2000 debacle, called HAVA, which requires cleaning voter rolls. They refuse to do it.

Nobody is above the law.

Do I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that Trump won the 2020 election? No. I suspect it. The evidence shows that the election was conducted in the least secure manner possible. But I don’t KNOW.

And the Democrats don’t want any of to ever find out.
