The major UK airport easyJet could launch first ever flights from

EASYJET has said they could one day launch flights from the UK’s biggest airport – for the first time ever.

Most of the budget airline’s flights operate out of its headquarters at London Luton.

It also has a number of routes from airports across the UK including Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol.

However, the airline – celebrating its 30th anniversary this week – has said they could eventually expand to London Heathrow.

EasyJet’s chief executive Kenton Jarvis told The Independent: “It’s probably the only major capital airport we’re not in.

“Heathrow is the obvious blank spot, though Gatwick serves us well with around 70 aircraft, Luton 25, and Southend newly reopened.”

He admitted that they wouldn’t make the move if London Heathrow became more expensive.

Mr Jarvis added: “But if they can make it commercially attractive, it’s a great opportunity – that M4 corridor isn’t well served by low-cost carriers.”

This isn’t the first time easyJet has suggested they could launch from London Heathrow Airport.

Mr Jarvis previously said: “When it comes to Heathrow, I’ve always thought Heathrow would fit our network of primary airports with great catchment areas.

“It fits with our network, we’re present at all the other major European airports like Schiphol, Charles de Gaulle, Orly and Geneva.”

London Heathrow’s major expansion is likely to see flight prices rise, however, to offset the cost.

Expected to cost £49billion, it includes the long-awaited third runway which hopes to be operational by 2035.

Earlier this year, an airport source told the Times that the “recovery timeline” would be a few years.

They said: “Currently our regulatory settlement is a five-year period, but maybe you could hive off the expansion project and get recovery over 30 years, so that the impact on passengers is reduced.”

In the mean time, easyJet has launched a flight sale to celebrate 30 years of flying.

Back in 1995, the airlines first ever flight operated from Luton to Glasgow for £29.

In celebration of this, flights and holiday packages have 30 per cent off, which start from £14.99.

However, the deal ends in a few hours so you will need to be quick.
