Author Richard Osman told Netflix’s Tudum: ‘The brilliant Chris Columbus wanted to share a scene that didn’t make it into the final cut, but one he really loved.

‘This is for all you Father Mackie fans out there!’

Thursday Murder Club, which lasts 118 minutes, is directed by Chris Columbus.

The film is produced by Jennifer Todd and Chris Columbus.

Many have loved the movie, with one saying on Rotten Tomatoes: ‘I never finished the book, it didn’t click for me. The film adaption? Loved it.

‘Some people moan about it not being a comedy, but it’s not written as a comedy, it’s a murder mystery with some rye comments on top.

‘Shame that the Bogdan character’s story had to be trimmed… really hope he’s still there in subsequent films.’

‘The Thursday Murder Club is an enjoyable movie, with an excellent plot and well acted. In a time when the best writing is often on a streaming series, it is refreshing to see these qualities in a two hour movie.

‘I am not sure which came first: “Murders in the Building” or “The Thursday Murder Club.” They are both of the same genre. They are engaging, intelligent and worth watching. Scott B. ‘

‘Great acting, lots of familiar faces, smart and funny, with the plot good to the end!’

‘An easy watch, thought I would like it more than I did. Great cast though.’

However some Thursday Murder Club viewers were left fuming after Netflix made an ‘unforgivable’ change to Richard Osman’s book – as fans said that they are going to ‘boycott the sequel’.

However, book lovers who rushed to Netflix to watch the movie were left disappointed by the ending after it appeared a fan-favourite character – who appears in the rest of the Thursday Murder Club books – was written out.

Writing on Reddit, several people demanded ‘justice for Bogdan’ – the Polish handyman brought to life on-screen by actor Henry Lloyd-Hughes – after his storyline was ‘bizarrely’ changed.

The Thursday Murder Club follows four senior sleuths Elizabeth (Dame Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Joyce (Celia Imrie), and Ibrahim (Sir Ben Kingsley) who band together to try and solve cold murder cases while spending their days at a charming retirement community.

When the body of Tony Curran (played by Geoff Bell)- co-owner of the retirement home Coopers Chase – is discovered, the pensioners find themselves hot on the trail of a murderer much closer to home.

Like in Osman’s bestselling novel, the killer is eventually revealed as his Polish employee Bogdan but everything that follows in the movie is a drastic departure from the book.

According to the author’s version, Bogdan’s motive for killing his land developer boss is to avenge the death of his friend Kaz many years prior to the events unfolding at Coopers Chase in present day.
