THE lead up to Christmas is in full swing which means the shops are full of festive fashion.
Deciding on a Christmas party outfit can be overwhelming and if you’re anything like me, comfort is key.
I want to be able to enjoy my evening without my outfit getting in the way.
As a midsize girl myself I’ve learnt over the years what works and suits my shape.
M&S is great for both comfort and style, so I’ve taken a look at its party selection and found eight of the best pieces that are perfect for this time of year.
Peplum tops are really good for all shapes, being midsize they cinch you in the middle before flowing out over your stomach, which is great for the festive season.
I love the green sequins on this and the square neckline gives it a modern update.
Worn with either a pair of jeans for a Christmas take on ‘jeans and a nice top’ or midi skirt it’s an easy, comfortable way of adding sequins to your wardrobe.
Plus it also comes in silver too!
A few years ago you would never really think to wear jeans for a festive party look.
However, embellished denim has really taken over the high street.
These M&S jeans are in the on trend ‘Carrot’ style, which means they are slightly wider midway down the leg.
Basically a balance between a straight and a wide leg, they are great at balancing out your proportions.
And of course the embellished detailing gives them that extra bit of festive touch.
It doesn’t get more festive than sequin trousers, however there’s nothing worse than an itchy sequin or trousers that are too tight.
Luckily this pair from M&S has a handy elasticated waistband which is key for this time of year.
And with an extra lining inside, making them even more comfy to wear, you won’t want to take them off.
Skater style dresses are great if you don’t want anything too clingy.
Fitted on the top before flaring out at the waist, they are very easy to wear.
This black velvet dress has some added embellishment around the neckline and makes for the perfect ‘little black dress’.
Wear with a pair of sheer tights and heels and if you want a bit of arm coverage a black blazer is the perfect addition.
A pleated midi skirt is one of those styles that never really goes out of date.
Meaning it’s a great addition to your wardrobe to wear year on year.
Metallics always go hand in hand with Christmas and the pleated style is super flattering on all shapes.
A piece you can dress up or dress down, I’d be wearing mine with a cosy knit and ballet flats for a cute twixmas look.
Wide leg, elasticated, black, embellished – these trousers really tick all of the boxes.
Coming with a matching shirt if you want to make a co-ord or just a great staple to go with other shirts, blouses and blazers in your wardrobe, at £90 these are a good investment piece.
As with other M&S trousers they come with an elastic waistband and the understated black embellishment gives these trousers a classy feel.
There are lots of mini skirts on the high street this season and I have rediscovered them this year after shying away from them in the past.
Worn with a pair of sheer tights and boots I think they can look really chic on someone midsize.
This green sequin skirt is super fun and adds a touch of festive to an outfit with being OTT.
If you’re in the market for a midi dress for party season then M&S has some great options.
I love the shirred top of this dress, it makes it extra stretchy – perfect for those with a fuller bust.
The puff sleeves are also a favourite style of mine and the black and gold detailing is giving a touch of glamour for this time of year without being too over the top.
Christmas Fashion Tips from an Expert
CLEMMIE Fieldsend, has shared her top tips for looking fabulous this Christmas.
AVOID: Christmas jumpers
No longer a novelty gag, they’re now gone back to being naff and have no place at a festive party.
By all means, go all in for Christmas Jumper Day for Save The Children, but never wear it before or after that day.
WEAR: Burgundy
You can’t escape burgundy at this time of year and it’s a luxury, deep and rich colour that is a welcome break from Santa-red at Christmas.
Opt for silky textures or velvet for extra style points.
AVOID: PJs
The trend of feather trimmed co-ords has had its day and is so dated.
Don’t pull out your hair plucked pair this year, and don’t get a new set, instead still go for the satin two-piece but just steer clear of the plumes.
WEAR: Sequin Dress
Try to switch up sequins slightly by wearing them with a different texture or colour, eg a sequin skirt with a sleek knit.
But when you’re really stuck on what to wear reach for the sequins, it is Christmas after all.
AVOID: Sequin blazer
Nothing worse than showing up to a festive do looking like the hired entertainment.
Leave the sequin blazer to magicians and Strictly judges, instead always reach for a classic tux style or velvet.
WEAR: Bling trousers
Last party season embellished jeans with diamante bling had a moment, and this year they’re going to be as much of a hit.
If you don’t want gemstones pinging off wherever you go then try metallic, PU trousers.
