After sitting outside over winter, some garden furniture can become covered in a crunchy, green layer.

However, there is one dirt-cheap item from Tesco which can make cleaning off that thin layer of algae easy.

The Tesco-own brand of distilled vinegar can dissolve the algae quickly and only costs 35p.

According to gardening expert, Laura Carter, the product is a “secret weapon” which can remove more than just algae.

She described the 35p product as “a cheap hack for cleaning wood and outside upholstery is distilled vinegar as it can remove bacteria, dirt and grime without harming the wood”.

The product is available at nearly all Tesco stores, though you’re more likely to find it in the cooking section than in the gardening aisle.

The supermarket chain’s website describes the product as “sharp and tangy” and as being perfect for “pickling” – it’s original purpose.

The 568ml bottle can be used on most garden furniture and has received rave reviews from fans.

Several shared the different ways in which they used the product.

One user shared how it doubled as a fabric conditioner and a descaler

‘It’s spacious enough for two adults’ – The Range release double garden rocking chair less than €120

The customer wrote: “I use it instead of fabric conditioner for my laundry and as a rinse aid in the the dishwasher. Also good for descaling the kettle and removing limescale from taps.”

The news comes after Brits flocked to their gardens over the weekend, as the UK sizzled in balmy 30C heat

Festivalgoers at Glastonbury have been urged to prepare for more humid weather, though, which averages around 22C.

By the time that the festival’s first headliner comes on stage, temperatures will have fallen to 17C.
