Teenager is airlifted to hospital after vanishing on walk and later being found down 20 metre drop at beauty spot

A teenager was airlifted to hospital on Saturday after falling 20 metres at a popular beauty spot.

The 19-year-old, who is yet to be named, was discovered with serious injuries in the Dovedale valley near Derby at around 2pm.

The local ambulance and mountain rescue services were called into action and he was flown to a nearby Stoke trauma unit for treatment.

An update on his condition is yet to be given.

It came moments before the Derby Mountain Rescue Team (DMRT) were alerted to reports of a missing walker nearby.

A concerned sibling had pleaded for help after her sister went missing while on a coach trip in the Peak District.

She was last seen on Thorpe Cloud hill but eventually found in no danger after emergency services successfully made contact.

A statement released by DMRT read: ‘While the team was responding to a trauma incident at Dovedale, concerns were raised regarding a potential missing person.

‘A member of the public reported that her sister had not returned after being last seen earlier on Thorpe Cloud as part of a coach trip. Following completion of the initial incident, the team was re-tasked to make inquiries and check the surrounding area.

‘Contact was attempted by text message and voicemail, and team members checked likely locations. The missing person was later contacted and confirmed to be safe and with other members of the group in Ilam. Advice was given to allow the group to be reunited.’

The Daily Mail has contacted local emergency services for comment.
