Suspected Hamas member arrested in German airport over alleged European attack plot

German police have arrested a suspected member of Hamas who is alleged to have plotted to carry out attacks on Jewish institutions in Europe.

The man, identified only as 36-year-old Mohammad S., was arrested late on Friday evening at Berlin‘s Brandenburg Airport.

The Lebanese-born man, who was on wanted list of the Federal Criminal Police Office, was said to have flown into the German capital from Beirut

German prosecutors have accused the man of being part of a team of foreign operatives who sourced firearms and ammunition for attacks against Israeli and Jewish institutions in Europe.

They accused him of procuring around 300 rounds of live ammunition in August 2025.

Mohammad S. is said to be one of several people arrested as part of an investigation into alleged terrorists.

In October, German cops arrested three suspected Hamas members during a weapons handover in Berlin – one of whom, Abed Al G, allegedly colluded with Mohammad S.

Hamas, which used to control Gaza but has been massively weakened following Israel’s retaliatory invasion of the enclave following the October 7 2023 attack, has long been designated a terrorist organisation by the US, UK, Israel and many other countries.

Its attack in 2023 saw the group’s terrorists launch a major incursion into Israel, killing around 1,200 and taking more than 250 hostage.

In response, Israel launched a military operation which Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry says has killed more than 71,000 Palestinians.

Earlier this month, Washington announced that the plan had now moved into the second phase, under which Israel is expected to withdraw troops further from Gaza, and Hamas is due to yield control of the territory’s administration.

U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met in Israel on Saturday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, mainly to discuss Gaza, two people briefed on the matter said, as local authorities reported further violence in the enclave.

Meanwhile, in Khan Younis, over a hundred people attended the funeral of a person who was killed by Israeli drone fire on Saturday, after holding special prayers in front of his white-shrouded body at the morgue in Nasser Hospital.

‘They are liars, there is no ceasefire,’ said Fares Erheimat, a relative of the dead man, during the funeral.
