And with the Gymproluxe portable reformer you can try it out for yourself in the comfort of your own home – without paying any expensive class fees.

Best known for its band and bar set, Gymproluxe released the product with the aim of helping people keep fit on a budget.

And it is perfect for just that – and for those who have limited free time and space in their home.

The reformer requires some assembly from the box – but it only took me about 15 minutes with the help of the YouTube tutorial on the official channel.

It comes with three resistance bands connecting the main base to the carriage, which slides along the main reformer board.

The use of all three bands makes for the strongest amount of resistance, while one makes for the lightest.

The more the resistance, the harder the workout – as I was quick to find out!

Inside the box there are also different handles that can be placed in multiple positions on the main base, along with additional resistance bands which can be used for upper body and core workouts.

I’m very much a beginner when it comes to pilates, so have been using the free workout videos on the Gymproluxe app and YouTube channel.

While many are free to watch, some require a Gymproluxe 2.0 subscription, which costs £39.99 for a year of £4.99-a-month – also with a free two-week trial available.

I found the workouts challenging and was certainly left aching after my first few goes.

Even if you don’t have too much time on your hands, you can definitely get a good workout in.

And what makes this piece of kit even better is the fact that it easily folds away and is so easy to store.

Pros

  • Easy to set up, fold away and store
  • Different bands and handles all included
  • Free workouts available online
  • Great for quick but effective workouts
  • Allows you to work on different areas of the body
  • Can be used by people with any level of experience

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Takes up quite a lot of floor space when in use
  • While some workouts are free, you will have to subscribe to Gymproluxe 2.0 for a wider variety

Gymproluxe pilates reformer review: Quickfire Q&A

How much is it?

Currently available for £295 on the Gymproluxe website.

Who is it best for?

People who are into – or want to get into – reformer pilates but don’t have the time/money to go multiple times a week.

Also for those who want to work out at home but don’t have too much storage space for equipment.

What did we love?

How quick and easy it is to set up. It took no longer than 15 minutes to build and it only takes a few minutes to get it out of storage and ready for use.

Also, how effective it is when it comes to working on different areas of the body.

What didn’t we love?

As you can probably see from the images, you need to clear a fair bit of floor space to use the reformer board. So those who do not have much space in their home might struggle.

There are also a limited number of free workouts to access on the Gymproluxe app, meaning you have to pay to use more.

First impressions

When opening the box – which is very heavy – the first thing you will likely see is the main board, which is the biggest item.

The carriage – which slides – and the main base are the other large elements.

You also have the added bands and some screws to attach wooden handles to the board and carriage.

At first, it can look quite daunting when you’ve got all of the separate elements, but I was surprised at how easy it was to assemble.

I found that the eight-minute YouTube tutorial really helped when putting the reformer together.

The video also explains how you can make workouts more challenging based on the number of resistance bands used to connect the carriage and base.

After setting up the reformer, I selected a workout from the Gymproluxe app which targeted the core and upper body.

It was only 15 to 20 minutes long, but I definitely felt it immediately afterwards and even the following day.

Each video involves a fitness expert who explains exactly how to do each exercise while also giving ways to make them easier or harder, catering for all difficulty levels.

We would recommend you try a variety of exercises to learn what is right for you.

Does it deliver?

As someone who likes to exercise as much as possible, I absolutely love having this at home.

It allows me to get a good, effective workout in whenever I don’t have enough time to go to the gym.

It is also brilliant for core work – which is something I have wanted to work on, and it has certainly been beneficial so far.

I can’t say I had tried reformer pilates before getting the Gymproluxe product, but it is something I will absolutely continue now – especially as I can do it from the comfort of my own home.

My sister, who had been going to reformer pilates classes for around six months before I had even received the product, also loves it and uses it in her spare time.

How much is it?

The reformer is currently on sale for £295 down from £395 on the Gymproluxe website.

It is expensive, but when you compare that to how much classes cost (at my local reformer pilates studio you can get four classes per month for £55) it is great value.

You might be able to get alternative options slightly cheaper, but I’m sure they will not match the quality of the Gymproluxe reformer.

Where can I buy it?

As mentioned, you can buy the reformer on the Gymproluxe website for £295.

You can also buy it from Currys for the same price.
