STRICTLY Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden and Carlos Gu made sure to tread carefully as they were quizzed on the show’s axing bloodbath during a new TV appearance.
We reported earlier this week how the BBC dance competition has axed over five professional dancers in a major shake-up.
Both the BBC and the show’s cohort of stars are yet to speak out on the brutal firings – which have seen Karen Hauer, Gorka Marquez, Nadiya Bychkova, Luba Mushtuk and Nadiya Bychkova cut.
Michelle Tsiakkas has also been dropped from the show.
However, as dancers Amy and Carlos appeared on BBC Breakfast this morning, they were quizzed over the recent events.
Broadcaster Charlie Stayt asked: “You will both be aware, I’m sure, it’s that time of year where there’s a lot of speculation about which dancers are going to be on Strictly Come Dancing – as in – on TV.
“There’s a lot of it knocking around at the moment, are you able to say anything about that?”
Remaining coy, Amy carefully replied: “You know, obviously, we’re getting asked this all the time.
“Nothing has been said by the BBC yet.
“We’re really hoping to be back dancing with our gorgeous Strictly family later this year but wait until any official announcements are made.”
She added: “There’s so much speculation but nothing has come from the BBC.”
Probing further, Charlie brought up how appearing on Strictly is a job for the professionals, sharing: “It’s like specualting about whether or not you’ve got a job or not, and that’s quite tricky in a way isn’t it, it is, it’s work…”
“It is, but we put our heart and soul into it, we love it,” replied Amy.
Carlos replied: “It’s our life. it’s not only work. For us, as a dancer, I think it’s the best platform you can ever be on to really shine through your talent.
“As a dancer and as an artist, both we are, we live our life and give everything that we are.
“We put our heart and soul into it, so, beyond that it’s more than just a job, it’s our life.”
The duo were on the show to promote their tour; Amy & Carlos Reborn.
Bringing the conversation away from the cuts, Amy then said: “It’s given us opportunities to go onto other opportunities, like our tour, and explore other avenues, without that show we would have never been able to do.”
