Strictly star makes surprise bid to replace hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman & vows to ‘audition on weekly basis’

STRICTLY star La Voix has set her sights beyond the Glitterball trophy — she wants to be the BBC One show’s next presenter.

The popular entertainer has even started rehearsing for the position following the announcement that Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly are leaving at the end of the series.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun on Sunday ahead of her foxtrot last night, La Voix — known off-stage as Christopher Dennis — quipped: “The Strictly gig is any TV presenter’s dream role.

“I am going to audition on a weekly basis if it gets me in the conversation for that job.

“They are leaving and I want the show.”

And La Voix, 45, who is partnered with pro Aljaz Skorjanec, knows exactly who bosses should snap up as her co-host.

PANTO DOBLE

Strictly in ‘chaos’ after star signs up for panto at SAME TIME as dance contest

She said: “I would love to do it with fellow comedian Alan Carr, I think the two of us would be absolute chaos.

“I’d quite like to shake up the dynamic of the conversation between the judges and the celeb and the pro and give them a moment of biting back.”

La Voix, who has previously appeared as a contestant on Britain’s Got Talent and RuPaul’s Drag Race, has been trying to catch the attention of show bosses with her witty remarks about Tess’s outfits during the live show.

She said: “If I don’t get the presenting job I would like to be Tess’ stylist moving forward.

“I’m empowering her with my observational awareness.

“Tess has responded more beautifully than I expected.

“Every week she will come up to me backstage and say, ‘Come on La Voix, what have you got to say on this outfit then.’

“But she’ll stop me and say, ‘Let’s save it for on air’ — she eggs me on. I’m so glad that she is in on the joke. I love her humour.”

Despite sitting at the bottom of the leaderboard initially, La Voix has managed to avoid being in the dance-off thanks to viewers’ votes.

She is not intimidated by the judges’ comments either, admitting she has melted acid-tongued veteran Craig Revel Horwood behind the scenes.

She said: “I think he is a soft pussycat underneath all that hard armour.

“I give back as good as I get. He does huge belly laughs at my jokes and he is a nice person.

“Backstage he has been wonderful, he says, ‘You’re fabulous darling’, but he’d never give me that on stage.”

La Voix has shed half a stone since signing up for Strictly.

‘MULTI-FACETED PERFORMER’

She said: “I am moving my body differently because I am working day in, day out. I want to stay this active now.”

She credits Slovenian Aljaz with her progress.

La Voix said: “Aljaz is such a gentleman.

Some people think drag queens are all edgy or blue, but I’m a big believer that I bring good variety fun entertainment

“He opens the door for me, he gets me coffee in the morning and offers to carry my bag.

“He’s a very good-looking guy and to be thrown around by him all day is no hardship. I am always having to apologise to him for standing on his feet.

“He was, genuinely, my number one choice of a partner before the show.

“I knew our bubbly personalities would match and there is such joyous energy in the room. We are always laughing.”

Strictly’s first ever drag artist contestant, Tayce Szura-Radix, was crowned the winner of its Christmas special last year.

La Voiz is now hoping to bring her brand of family-friendly drag to mainstream and become the next Lily Savage or Dame Edna.

She said: “Some people think drag queens are all edgy or blue, but I’m a big believer that I bring good variety fun entertainment.

“We are multi- faceted performers.

“If you look at Dame Edna and Lily Savage you wouldn’t question putting them on a prime-time family show.

“If I open the door to other drag artists getting on Strictly or Traitors, I feel like I have flown that flag proudly.

“It’s not something to be scared of — it’s family fun.”

Meanwhile, Strictly pro Katya Jones has revealed she is backing her former colleague and It Takes Two host Janette Manrara to take over the reins from Tess and Claudia.

Asked whether La Voix was right to suggest Alan Carr as their replacement, Katya said: “I don’t know. I think Janette would make a better Claudia,  because she knows the dancing.

“She knows what she’s talking about and how we feel.

“But Alan . . . maybe with the judges he would be hilarious.”

Asked how Strictly has transformed his body, Lewis said: “I’ve stayed the same weight but I’ve managed to lean up, which has been nice.

“You’re dancing for eight hours a day, four days a week so you’re burning a lot more calories.”
