And some of Amy’s fans thought she “deserved better” after returning from chemotherapy for breast cancer.
One wrote online: “Amy has had a rough time of it recently and has shown incredible strength and determination.
“And you pair her with him?”
Another added: “Sorry Strictly but this is totally tone-deaf.
“We absolutely love Amy and, dare I say, feel protective of her.
“She really doesn’t need all the negativity by association.”
Amy, 35, was seen pulling a face as Tom suggested a greasy-spoon breakfast before training.
A source said she was concentrating on achieving the best results she could with Tom, 34.
They added: “He can be outspoken but in training he’s really knuckled down and is giving the competition his all.”
