TESCO shoppers could believe their luck this week after Squishmallow toys were scanning for just 4p in supermarkets.
A shopper showed how they picked up four big pink Pokemon plushies after stumbling upon the incredible bargain.
Taking to the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, they shared how they had been initially delighted to see the soft toys – themed on the character Chansey – reduced to just £4.50 in the sale.
However, things got even better when they scanned the Squishmallows and saw they were actually just 4p.
This was remarkable savings, as they would have spent £59.84 for the four toys if they had been full price.
After excitedly sharing the deal with Facebook users, the post has racked up over 600 likes, and many people said they had immediately rushed to snap up the toys for themselves.
Many people were successful in their Tesco missions, and commented about their own finds.
One said: “I’ve just been and got some and scans fine.”
Another added: “Thanks, Just went out and got 2 for my boys, found a hedwig one for same price too!”
And a third commented: “Just got mine for 4p thank you!”
Meanwhile, many people seemed keen to get hold of the discounted toys for their kids or grandkids.
One said: “I’m going to Tesco today lol.”
A second agreed: “Should go check lol.”
And one person lamented: “I just paid £11 for this toy in B&M the other day.”
Squishmallow hype
Soft, spongy and sold in millions, Squishmallows are a trend to be reckoned with.
In 2023, more than £100million of the colourful creatures were snapped up worldwide, with sales soaring by 11 per cent in the UK.
Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian are fans of the range, which includes mythical creatures such as Ace The Unicorn, vegetables and branded editions including Harry Potter, Star Wars and CoComelon.
They adorn kids’ bedrooms across the country and, in extreme cases, are taking over homes.
We previously shared how one mum spent £2.5k on Squishmallows for her 12-year-old.
When do supermarkets put out yellow-sticker bargains?
The time supermarkets reduce their products vary across stores.
Here’s a rough supermarket-by-supermarket guide:
Aldi
Aldi uses a red sticker to show reductions on fresh products such as bread, meat, fruit and vegetables.
This is when they have reached the last day of shelf life.
Red stickered items are most commonly found at opening and closing times.
M&S
Reduction times can vary from store to store but is most likely to occur near closing time.
Asda
Asda told Which? that yellow stickers are applied twice a day – in the morning and evening.
Co-op
Co-op told The Sun its reduced-to-clear prices are generally applied about four hours before the store closes.
Lidl
Lidl has a similar procedure to Asda and Aldi with reductions twice a day.
However individual stores may opt to reduce prices throughout the day.
Morrisons
Shoppers online have said that Morrisons does the best bargains first thing in the morning.
However, the store told Which? that there are no specific times for yellow sticker price cuts.
Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury’s told The Sun it’s at the store manager’s discretion whether to offer discounts.
However, shoppers have reported that the best deals are in the evening from 6pm.
Tesco
Tesco has said there is no specific time for reduction, but again most people found that prices were reduced from 6pm.
Waitrose
As with most of the other stores, Waitrose shoppers have said the best reductions are found before closing.
However, the store stated that there is no specific time for yellow stickers to be applied.
