Paying respects to Metcalf in a Facebook post, Sound Of Guns said: “Today, we are heartbroken.

We’re sad to say that our friend, brother, and frontman of Sound of Guns, Andrew Metcalfe has sadly passed away.

Sound Of Guns formed in Liverpool in 2008 and featured Metcalfe alongside Lee Glynn, Nathan Crowley, John Coley and Simon Finley.

The band eventually took a permanent hiatus in 2013.

Sound Of Guns added: “Andy was one of the greatest frontmen to ever grace a stage.

“His presence was unmatched, his songwriting was incredible and his voice was one of a kind.”

The band branded him a “true artist, performer, lyricist and genuinely lovely man”, and said they appreciated his touching contribution to music.

“We are thankful for the short time we had with him and the amazing things we did as a band,” the band continued.

“We saw incredible things, played incredible stages and met incredible people.”

Heartbroken fans poured out on social media to mourn the tragic star.

One said: “If you knew Sound Of Guns, you knew every gig wasn’t just a night out, it was a lifeline.

“Their music made you feel alive when you barely felt present at all.”

Describing the late rocker, they said: “And the memory that will never leave me?

“Andy leaping into the crowd in Liverpool from ceiling height fearless, full of life, unforgettable – absolutely insane moment!”

Another said: “Some of my happiest memories were watching you guys and my favourite ever gig was at the kazimier.

“I sing magnesium seas to my daughter every day. Rest in peace Andy lad.”

Throughout their five-year stint, Sound Of Guns played at major festivals and released two albums, What Came From Fire in 2010, and Angels and Enemies in 2012.
