Someone Please Explain the National Episcopal Braintrust to Me Like I Was Five – HotAir

Because, honestly?

I’m not really understanding how they’re claiming to be ‘Christian’ right now.

David had a post this morning about the first little group of South African Afrikaners who have arrived via Trump’s designating them basically an endangered species.

I think there are a whopping 49 souls altogether.

They seem pretty happy to be out of that hellhole.

Perhaps some of those children will grow up with a father instead of memories of him being butchered in front of their horrified eyes. I’m sure that was part of Trump’s calculation when he offered them resettlement. The administration has determined Afrikaners are being persecuted ‘based on a protected characteristic’ – their race.

The Left is predictably melting down and once again displaying not only their complete ignorance of history, but any concept of the actual state of current events somewhere other than New York City or D.C., especially if it isn’t shown on MSNBC.

IF THEY DON’T LIKE SOUTH AFRICA, THE COLONIZERS CAN JUST GO BACK TO GERMANY

Sweet Mother of God.

They absolutely dispute that the Afrikaners are under siege – just leave if it’s so bad, why doncha?

‘Only you don’t need to come here.’ She is just lovely.

All this dismissive contempt because this South African minority’s skin hue is awfully pale, uniformly across the board.

That’s it.

I can see the race-baiting, ignorant venom spewers who work the boards at MSNBC losing their cookies, and they’re probably delighted to have some white people to beat up on.

I expect nothing less from them.

BUT

Color me confuzzled when a major Christian denomination suddenly decides they can’t handle refugees – their business in trade, mind you – because the color of the refugees offends the ‘moral’ sensibilities of the ‘racial injustice’ do-gooders.

What am I missing here?

Yay for being anti-Apartheid, dudes. That’s three decades in the rear-view mirror and are these people responsible for the sins of their fathers?

The ANC thinks sure so.

Does that have any relevance to the country’s situation now that American Episcopalians should be enabling the regime in that retribution?

In a letter sent to members of the church, the Most Rev. Sean W. Rowe — the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church — said that two weeks ago the government “informed Episcopal Migration Ministries that under the terms of our federal grant, we are expected to resettle white Afrikaners from South Africa whom the U.S. government has classified as refugees.”

The request, Rowe said, crossed a moral line for the Episcopal Church, which is part of the global Anglican Communion that boasts among its leaders the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a celebrated and vocal opponent of apartheid in South Africa.

In light of our church’s steadfast commitment to racial justice and reconciliation and our historic ties with the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, we are not able to take this step,” Rowe wrote. “Accordingly, we have determined that, by the end of the federal fiscal year, we will conclude our refugee resettlement grant agreements with the U.S. federal government.”

Rowe stressed that while Episcopal Migration Ministries will seek to “wind down all federally funded services by the end of the federal fiscal year in September,” the denomination will continue to support immigrants and refugees in other ways, such as offering aid to refugees who have already been resettled.

It’s a lovely country.

And I’ve posted many times about what the government of Cyril Ramaphosa has systematically done to strip white South Africans of their rights in order to drive them from their lands and businesses.

Protecting their lives is the last thing he would be interested in, as he’s the one who’s enabled the dogpacks to run rampant.

But the Episcopalians, who were charged – and paid handsomely with taxpayer dollars to do so – with resettling the few families who made it to the United States safely, have no time for these people either.

Because they’re white and came from a country that once practiced apartheid.

And are busy invoking Desmond Tutu to justify turning their backs.

It seems Bishop Rowe, good, virtue-signaling progressive Christian that he is, is busy splitting hairs about what refugees got bumped ahead of others who perhaps should never have been on a list to begin with. And he surely has his nose out of joint at Trump’s budget cuts. How could Trump ‘abandon’ all the Biden refugees so cruelly?

…Rowe said the Trump administration had informed them a couple of weeks ago that, per the terms of their federal grant, they were expected to help resettle some white Afrikaners from South Africa who had been labeled as refugees under a February executive order that accused South African government of seizing white landowners agricultural properties without compensation. Afrikaners are a people group that descended mostly from Dutch settlers who arrived in South Africa in the 1600s.

The move comes after President Donald Trump suspended the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program shortly after taking office in January, leaving tens of thousands of asylum seekers approved for resettlement in limbo.

…The presiding bishop took issue with a “group of refugees, selected in a highly unusual manner,” getting “preferential treatment over many others who have been waiting in refugee camps or dangerous conditions for years.”

“I am saddened and ashamed that many of the refugees who are being denied entrance to the United States are brave people who worked alongside our military in Iraq and Afghanistan and now face danger at home because of their service to our country,” Rowe continued.

…Shortly after Trump began his second term, EMM announced that it would cut 22 staff members and wind down its refugee resettlement programs due to the president issuing an executive order suspending refugee resettlement.

Rowe stated in a letter that it was a “painful decision” for the EMM to enact such cuts and that the entity “will retain a small team to manage the wind down of EMM’s federal grant-sponsored programs.”

You can figure out what Bishop Rowe’s implied answer is.

Bishop Rowe even managed to get in an ‘illegal executive order‘ dig at the president.

…”It’s time for the Administration to honor our nation’s commitment to the thousands of refugee families it abandoned with its cruel and illegal executive order.”

You know – while abandoning refugees himself because they were the wrong color

I am assuming Bishop Rowe and his church never once dove into the particulars, legitimate or otherwise, of any said refugee’s personal story, as long as their skin was a different hue, they had a foreign accent, and had a US government check attached to their care.

I’d say forgive my cynicism, but I’m not really feeling sorry about it at the moment.

Nope.

Just grateful we found out before we gave these true believers another dime.
