So it can be hard to pick and choose what to grab.

But shoppers are in love with a stunning top from Sainsbury’s which strikes the perfect balance between cosy and glam.

Tu Clothing is the supermarket‘s in-house fashion label and regularly delights fashion fans with its stylish buys at bargain prices.

Their red jewel neck peplum knitted top is ideal for the festivities.

Its kicked out waist is ideal for covering a multitude of seasonal sins.

And the embellished collar gives it a bit of glitz for Christmas.

Describing the scarlet stunner, the team said: “Our red knitted jumper features a jewel necklace detail at the crew neckline – designed in a flattering peplum shape.

“A chic and festive piece with built-in sparkle.”

The top, which comes in sizes 6 to 24 and is also available in a neutral cream shade, is already racking up five star reviews.

And it’ll more than likely continue to fly off the shelves as it’s down from £26 to £20.80.

One happy customer said: “I bought this as a treat for myself for Xmas, it looks and feels fantastic great colour easy to wear with jeans for a day look of tailored trousers for an evening out.”

A second gushed: “This is such a flattering and comfortable jumper.

“Fits perfectly, and the material feels lovely. Highly recommend.”

A third said: “Perfect fit. It is so flatting and comfortable to wear and very generous in size.”

A fourth shopper was showered with compliments.

She said: “I’ve worn this once and had three people comment how lovely it was and asked where I bought it from, feels elegant when wearing.”

Another shopper grabbed the less festive colour, saying: “I saw the red one in the store and thought it would be just right for Christmas but then I saw that it came in natural and thought that would do for any time of the year as I don’t go out that much.

“It’s a lovely fit, very comfortable and looks so smart, and keeps its shape.”

Is supermarket fashion the new high street?

DEPUTY Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in:

The supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, as you head in to do your weekly food shop you can also pick up a selection of purse-friendly, stylish pieces for all the family.

Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent increase in the quarter thanks to a ‘strong growth in clothing’ and M&S has earnt the title of the number one destination for womenswear on the high street.

Asda’s clothing line George has made £1.5 million for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury’s clothes sold at full price rather than discounted and Nutmeg at Morrisons sales are also up 2 per cent in the past year.

So what is it about supermarket fashion that is becoming so successful?

Apart from the clothing actually being affordable, it’s good quality too – with many being part of schemes such as the Better Cotton Initiative.

A lot of the time they keep to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year.

Plus because they buy so much stock they can turn around pieces quickly and buy for cheaper because of the volumes.
