Saturday Night Live viewers have been left outraged and disgusted by Nikki Glaser’s bizarre monologue, making light of rape, incest, pedophilia and sex trafficking.
The 41-year-old stand-up comic, known for her raunchy material, left the internet stunned with jokes that many said went too far during the Saturday night episode.
Glaser’s first jaw-dropping nod to trafficking was referring to New York City as ‘[Jeffrey] Epstein’s original island.’
But the quip was mild compared to what came next.
‘There’s always a poster on the back of the stall asking you if you’re being trafficked,’ the Nikki Glaser Podcast host began.
‘Men’s restrooms do not have these signs. I don’t know what signs you have, maybe like: “Want a slave? Text TRAFFIC to 6969.”‘
Glaser said that her friends who are in their 20s are terrified of being trafficked, but she does not share their concerns.
‘And I don’t relate,’ Glaser bluntly said, garnering a buzz of hesitant laughter from the live audience. ‘In my 20s, I just feared like, good old-fashioned rape.’
Nikki Glaser hosted Saturday’s SNL episode, opening up the show with a controversial monologue
After the brazen monologue, the incest theme arose again during a skit depicting Glaser (left) and Tommy Brennan as inappropriately close siblings
‘I didn’t think it would be a career,’ she continued. ‘We didn’t think it was anything more than a temp job on a frat-house futon.’
Moving into the portion of her roughly nine-minute spiel that caused the most uproar, Glaser shared a questionable anecdote about staying at her sister’s house – in which she contemplated pedophilia.
‘I feel like it’s too hard to be a mom. I have too much anxiety about it. I mean, it’s hard even being an aunt for me,’ the comedian said.
She told the crowd that while she was going to take a shower, her nephew came running into the room.
‘I want to take a shower with you! I want to take a shower with you!’ she mimicked her sister’s son in a high-pitched, childlike voice.
‘He’s 18. I was like, “What’s going on with his voice?” Something’s wrong,’ she said before clarifying that he is actually only four years old.
She went on: ‘My sister was like, “He can take a shower with you, it’s fine, he does it with us.”
‘And I’m like, “Ok, that’s fine for you guys, but are you really ok with an adult showering with your child?”‘
The monologue sparked instant outrage from viewers who found her jokes tasteless
‘Because what if I molest him?’ she jarringly asked. ‘I don’t even trust myself, I don’t want to go in there. How do you become a pedophile? You don’t get to choose what you’re into, dude.’
Glaser’s brazen show intro caught immediate backlash, with critics bashing her material and calling out SNL for even allowing her to go on her wild tangent.
‘Nikki Glaser used to be quietly funny, but she’s also a roaster and shock comedian; however, that monologue and first skit feels inappropriate for not just our current landscape but for life in general #SNL,’ someone reacted on X.
‘I barely watched it after this because Nikki Glaser’s monologue about sex trafficking girls was f**king offensive,’ another agreed.
‘On any day, I wouldn’t think it was funny but especially, with the poor victims of Epstein speaking out. People are so f**king tone deaf! I guess I’m the only one,’ a user added.
‘Rape, trafficking, pedophilia, now incest. Tonight is just gross. #SNL,’ someone said.
One user added: ‘Nikki Glaser (of all people) absolutely bombed her #SNL monologue. It was CRINGE.’
‘Omg this Nikki Glaser monologue is awful and unfunny wtf was she thinking?!’ another chimed in.
Glaser, seen during SNL’s Sorority Meeting skit, was heavily criticized for her monologue
Some viewers defended Glaser’s jokes and thought they were funny
One woman referenced the night’s ‘incest sketch’ depicting Glaser and Tommy Brennan as siblings who are far too close during a family karaoke night.
‘The incest sketch on tonight’s SNL might have been a tad funny if it hadn’t been immediately preceded by Nikki Glaser jokingly contemplating pedophilia in her opening monologue,’ she wrote.
Others bashed Glaser as the ‘worst host ever’ and dubbed her jokes ‘disgusting.’ But some people did get a kick out of her controversial comments.
‘I thought she was funny,’ someone said, defending Glaser. ‘Nikki Glaser is a f**king pro. Best monologue in ages,’ another wrote.
