Six people killed in horror fireball crash near US Embassy in Lisbon after BMW ‘lost control’

SIX people have died in a horror fireball car crash next to the US Embassy in Lisbon.

All of the victims are believed to have died inside the flaming wreckage after the driver lost control in the early hours of this morning.

Those killed were made up of three men and three women all aged between 18 and 20, a source from the local fire department confirmed to SIC

Terrifying reports of the deadly blaze in the Portuguese capital were first made at around 3.40am.

The BMW driver had veered off the road after becoming “distracted” at the wheel, according to local reports.

Moments later, the car reportedly smashed into a barrier and was set on fire within seconds.

The roof of the motor appears to have been taken off my emergency services as they rushed to the crash site.

The tragic crash took place on the Avenida das Forcas Armadas, which translates as Armed Forces Avenue in English, in Lisbon’s Sete-Rios area.

The nationalities of the victims are yet to be released as investigations continue.

Forensic experts remain at the scene with the road being sealed off as of 10:30am on Sunday.

There have been almost 132,000 road accidents in Portugal this year which have resulted in 388 deaths, according to provisional data from the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR).

It comes after two firefighters were found dead after their truck skidded off the road and plunged into a ravine while on an emergency call in Portugal.

The fire engine veered off the road and crashed into a ravine, leaving devastation in its wake.

Three other emergency crew members were also left severely injured in the accident.
