DARREN FERGUSON has issued a statement after emerging as a target to replace a former Premier League star in the dugout.
The son of legendary former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has carved out his own managerial career in the lower leagues in England with FOUR stints at Peterborough United as well as Preston and Doncaster.
Across his spells at Posh he has lifted the EFL trophy three times and also tasted multiple promotions.
His name was linked to the now vacant post at Northampton Town.
But the 54-year-old has made his position clear over the Cobblers.
It is reported after being contacted by the Peterborough Telegraph about the position he made it known it was a ‘definite no’.
Ferguson is currently out of work as he awaits his next opportunity.
Former West Ham, Bolton and Newcastle United star Kevin Nolan was axed from his position earlier this week.
It comes with the club second bottom of League One and fighting for their survival in the third tier with ten games of the season to go.
Chairman Kelvin Thomas said: “We are sorry to have to take this decision, but unfortunately as we all know, football is very results based.

“We will always be grateful to Kevin for his hard work here, he helped keep us up last season and we enjoyed a strong first half of this season but since Christmas the sequence of performances and results have led us to believe a change is in the best interests of all concerned.
“We are fortunate to have someone of Colin’s experience, supported by Ian Sampson and the rest of the staff to look after matters on an interim basis.
“Kevin leaves with our thanks and our best wishes and we wish him well for the future.”
Technical Director Colin Calderwood has stepped into the dugout until further notice and will be assisted by Ian Sampson.
