Sinners dominated the competition as it nabbed the coveted number one spot at the box office for a second weekend in a row with an impressive $45M.
The horror film starring Michael B. Jordan and directed by Ryan Coogler made a solid $45M at the weekend domestic box office – a dip from the $48M it earned last weekend, according to The Numbers.
Meanwhile, a controversial film that was heavily hyped continued to tank at the box office.
Disney’s remake of Snow White – starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot – earned just $431,000 at this weekend’s box office.
Snow White had a reported production budget of up to $270 million, not counting the hundreds of millions poured into publicity and advertising that mean a film needs to make two to three times its budget in order to truly turn a profit. The movie has thus far made a total of $195,167,235 worldwide.
The controversial Disney remake was beat out by another a familiar title that was re-released in theatres years following it’s initial debut.

Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith scored $25,200,000 at this weekend’s box office and landed in second place following a re-release on April 25.
While the film is two decades old, it demonstrated it’s holding power as it landed at second place 20 years following it’s 2005 release.
The Ben Affleck-led action film The Accountant 2 made it’s box office debut in third place with $24,492,743.
The sequel to the 2016 film The Accountant, the movie hit theatres on April 25 and had a budget of $80M.
A Minecraft Movie landed in fourth place with $22,720,000 – a drop from the previous weekend’s $40,497,865.
The successful film enjoyed back-to-back number one placements following it’s release on April 4 before it subsequently dropped to second for the weekend of April 18.
Coming in fifth place was Until Dawn with $8,015,000 followed by The King of Kings in sixth with $4,018,664.
The 20th Century Fox film The Amateur landed in seventh place with $3,800,000.
A24 had two films in the top 10 with Warfare making the eighth rung with $2,652,229.

The studio’s film The Legend of Ochi also came in ninth place with $1,443,157.
The concert film Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII secured the 10th spot with $1,322,827.
The film is a re-release of the 1972 movie and has limited screenings available. It has been remastered into 4k and is available for viewing in both cinemas and IMAX screens.
It comes as Sinners raised concerns it could ‘be the end of the studio system’ amongst studio executives due to a deal struck by director Coogler and Warner Brothers when the studio first agreed to snap it up.
Sinners – which Puck reports has a $170M ‘breakeven’ target – first came with a price tag estimated at $90 million for the filmmaker Coogler, whose past credits include Black Panther and Creed.
Coogler’s deal awarding him a percentage of gross ticket sales – and ownership of the film following a 25-year span – has started a ‘very dangerous’ precedent, rival studio execs told Vulture.

The success of this weekend’s (and last weekend’s) number one film comes amid questions over it’s ability to achieve the $170 breakeven target Warner Brothers had placed on it, according to Puck News
The execs said that the business arrangement ‘could be the end of the studio system’ as creatives are financially enriched at a level like never before.
The innovative business arrangement over the Warner Bros. film with Kugler has executives ‘sweating’ over the precedent it sets, studio insiders told Vulture.
The script for the motion picture had garner a high level of interest when it initially hit the market in late 2023 and began generating bids in January 2024.
The film’s commercial viability was also buoyed by the presence of Jordan and Coogler, who past collaborated on the on 2018 Marvel hit Black Panther, which garnered $1.4 billion in box office revenues worldwide.
The motion picture, which is set in 1932, was centered around twins Smoke and Stack, who run a business in Mississippi.
The movie also Miles Caton, Saul Williams, Andrene Ward-Hammond, Jack O’Connell, Tenaj L. Jackson, David Maldonado, Percy Bell and Aadyn Encalarde.

The film, which was well-received by critics, was screened at 3,308 North American theaters, Variety reported last Sunday.
‘This is an excellent opening for a period horror film,’ FranchiseRe consultant David A. Gross told the outlet. ‘It should have a good run now.’
Gross said that the money invested in the motion picture ‘is going to cast a long shadow and set a high bar to profitability.’
Imax CEO Rich Gelfond told Variety of collaborating with Coogler on the movie: ‘It’s been an awesome ride partnering with Ryan on this highly acclaimed, magnificently shot film. We couldn’t be happier that Imax played a part in a successful opening for Sinners.’
