Shopkeeper’s ‘horror’ after being hacked by machete thugs in nasty attack outside Scots store

COPS are hunting a masked machete yob who slashed a shopkeeper.

The hooded thug lurked in bushes then ambushed Nadar Shahzad, 53, as he left the store to put out rubbish.

Police are appealing for information after a shopkeeper was seriously injured in an attack in Coalburn, Lanark on Sunday, 7 September 2025., , Around 8.50am, a 53-year-old man was putting rubbish in bins beside the convenience store on Coalburn Road when he was approach and slashed with a bladed weapon by a man who then ran off towards Dunns Crescent., , The injured man was taken to Wishaw General Hospital where he remains for treatment. Medical staff describe his condition as stable., , The suspect is described as male, 6ft, of a slim build, and was wearing black jogging bottoms, a black north face hooded top with white writing. a black snood, white trainers and orange gloves., , Detective Constable Alison Geal, Lanarkshire CID, said: “From our enquiries so far, we believe this attack to be totally unprovoked but that the person who was attacked was the target of the suspect., , “Officers have been checking CCTV from the area and we know that the man had been hiding in nearby bushes and to the side of the shop for at least two hours before the shopkeeper emerged from the store., , “We have a limited description of the suspect’ as the hood of his jacket and snood he was wearing covered almost the whole of his face., , “This was a nasty attack. There appears to have been no attempt by the suspect to enter the store., , “The shop is in the middle of a residential area overlooked by numerous homes. Officers are in the area, but we’d appeal to anyone who may have doorbell footage, or dash cam, to contact police., , “We believe the suspect knows the area. Police are appealing for information after a shopkeeper was seriously injured in an attack

After chopping at the dad-of-three’s face the attacker fled the scene in Coalburn, Lanarkshire. Nadar was taken to University Hospital Wishaw for treatment.

He has since been released with a bandage covering the right side of his face. Nadar, whose family have run the store for 34 years, said he had “no idea” why he was targeted.

Nadar Shahzad was the victim of machete attack

Speaking from his home in nearby Kirkmuirhill, he added: “I’ve never had issues with anybody.

“It’s a random thing.

“I can’t remember much about it, it happened that fast.” Cops have checked CCTV footage but the slim, 6ft assailant’s face was behind a snood.

Appealing for witnesses, Detective Constable Alison Geal said: “This was a nasty attack.

“The man had been hiding for at least two hours before.”

We previously reported how two men were injured after a man was spotted with a “machete” on a Scots street.

The armed man was spotted with the bladed weapon on Tollcross Road in Glasgow earlier this month.

Armed police were deployed to the incident after the alarm was raised.

One of the injured men was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary to be treated.

Cops launched a search for the man after arriving on the scene.

They managed to find the weapon – understood to be a machete.

A man was also seen smashing up a car with the weapon nearby.
