Shooter Attacks Catholic School Mass in Minneapolis; Perp Dead – HotAir

Horrible news out of Minneapolis today. A gunman opened fire on a Catholic school during the drop-off for K-8 students, leaving multiple victims. There is no word yet on potential fatalities, except for the perpetrator, who reportedly committed suicide:

There are multiple victims from a shooting that unfolded during morning drop-off at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, sources told ABC News.

The shooter is “contained” and there’s “no active threat to the community,” city officials said. The suspect is believed to be deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, sources said.

This is the fourth multiple-victim shooting in Minneapolis within less than 24 hours, NBC News points out:

“The level of gun violence across the city within the last day is deeply unsettling,” the Minneapolis Police Department said in a news release. “Across three separate multiple-victim shootings, eight people have been injured by gunfire and three have lost their lives.”

The attack at Annunciation Church would be the fourth deadly shooting in Minneapolis in less than 24 hours. In the most recent shooting, one man was killed and another injured at 2:08 a.m. in downtown Minneapolis.

One local CBS News reporter got emotional describing the scene, as injured children were reunited with their parents:

Details are sketchy, and the 24-hour rule on reliability should be observed. However, the MN CRIME account on Twitter/X usually has reliable data taken from first-responder communications, and its thread on the incident notes that there may be two deceased victims, with another “more than a dozen” transported to local hospitals. All victims have been triaged. Don’t take those numbers as firmly established yet, of course,

Also, it’s still not clear where the shooting took place. Some reports say it was inside the church during the opening Mass for the school day, while other media sources report it as during the drop-off period. Both could be true at the same time, of course. One source told Fox News that the shooter fired into the church from the outside during Mass, however:

Again, these kinds of details are at best worth taking with some reservation until investigators have a chance to determine what actually happened.

In the meantime, pray for the victims and the community — and all of the first responders, too. We’ll update as developments warrant.

Update: Donald Trump asked for prayers while assuring that federal agencies are monitoring the situation:

The advice to reserve judgment on details is not meant to be insulting toward the sources, by the way. Witness testimony in the immediate aftermath of a traumatic event like this takes time to sort through, and sometimes changes when adrenaline and fear finally uncloud minds. Investigators are trained and experienced at determining the facts.
