THIS is the shocking moment a footballer suffered a testicular injury after being struck by a firework.
The horror moment happened in a Bolivian Primera Division clash between The Strongest and Blooming.
Home side The Strongest won 3-2 and forward Juan Godoy netted the winner.
But things descended into chaos after the game as fans let off fireworks in the stadium.
The special type of pyrotechnic, named a “llorona”, is known for moving through the air like a rocket.
Supporters fired them onto the pitch at full-time as fans and staff from both teams fled the field in terror.
But one struck their match-winning hero Godoy and knocked him to the floor.
He went down holding his private parts and eventually had to be helped off the pitch by a medic.
Reports in Bolivian outlet El Deber claim Godoy suffered a grade one thigh burn and a hematoma in the testicular area.
Doctors have diagnosed him with an orchitis, which is an inflammation of the testicle.
The Strongest’s ultras group UltraSur have been blamed for the incident by the club.
There has been claims that the fireworks were launched amid an ongoing protest at the club’s ownership.
But UltraSur said they let off the flares in celebration and offered an apology to Godoy.
They wrote: “We would like to address all our fans to express our sincere apologies for the events that occurred.
“It was never our intention to cause harm to any player or member of the coaching staff.
“We always seek to encourage and contribute, not to put anyone at risk.”
They also added that they would not be letting off fireworks at future matches.
A club statement from The Strongest claim it “will never happen again” and they are working to find those responsible.
