THIS is the shocking moment a motorist driving without a licence smashed an Audi straight into a barber shop.
Lewis Charlton, 22, had already been slapped with six points on his provisional licence and had a record for driving offences before the horror smash on March 1 last year.
Terrifying CCTV footage shows the Audi, which belonged to a friend of Charlton, speeding off the main road and crashing into the barber shop in Fawdon, Newcastle at around 11pm.
Cops rushed to the scene of the collision which caused £7,000 worth of damage as the business was not insured, Newcastle Crown Court heard.
Charlton swiftly fled the scene and was not home when officers arrived at the address to question the driver.
However, the Fawdon local handed himself in the day after the horror smash.
“On arrival officers noted a white Audi, half of the car was inside the shop and half was on the pavement,” Prosecutor Matthew Hopkins said.
“The driver had left the scene.
“The incident itself was captured on CCTV footage. The footage shows the car approach a T-junction at high speed and them crash into the front of the barber shop.
“Police identified the defendant as the driver and also received information that the Audi had been seen outside Kenton Social Club prior to the incident.”
Charlton admitted to dangerous driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, with no insurance and failing to provide a sample.
The offender has a previous record of driving without due care and attention, taking without consent and altering a registration plate.
He was sentenced to 12 months suspended for two years with 180 hours unpaid work.
Charlton was also slapped with a £4,000 compensation order and rehabilitation requirements.
Laura Peto, who was defending the culprit, argued that her client regretted the incident, that he was holding down a job and could be trusted not to reoffend.
It comes after a speeding driver lost control of his car and crashed into a curry house earlier this month.
The car is seen driving on the pedestrian walk at a fast speed being chased by police.
The building scrapped the side of the car, ripping its door off and damaging the corner of the building.
A police car pulls up to the collision with Jolly’s Indian Restaurant a second after the crash.
The crash happened at 2am on January 2 on Hounslow Road, Whitton, London.
