SOHAM child killer Ian Huntley remains seriously ill three days after he was attacked with a metal bar in jail.
Durham Constabulary said there had been no change in his condition in hospital overnight.
The 52-year-old was attacked by a fellow inmate in the workshop of maximum security prison, HMP Frankland.
Huntley was repeatedly smashed over the head at the Durham jail last Thursday morning.
According to reports, triple killer Anthony Russell allegedly shouted out: “I’ve done it, I’ve done it.”
Police had said a man in his mid-40s was detained in the prison but had not yet been arrested.
Russell was sentenced to a whole-life tariff in 2021 for the murders of Julie Williams, 58, and her son David Williams, 32.
He also murdered pregnant 31-year-old Nicole McGregor, who was found in woodland near Leamington Spa three days later.
Thursday’s assault was the latest attempt on Huntley’s life.
Ex-caretaker Huntley killed ten-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham, Cambs, in 2002.
He dumped their bodies in a ditch.
Huntley’s life sentence recommended he serve at least 40 years for the Soham murders.
