Schoolgirl, 11, is airlifted to hospital after car ploughed into her at pedestrian crossing: Woman, 54, arrested

An 11-year-old schoolgirl has been airlifted to hospital after a car ploughed into her at a pedestrian crossing. 

The child was injured after a black Toyota Auris smashed into her on the A4500 Weedon Road at Upton in Northampton.

The serious crash occurred at around 4.05pm on Monday and the girl was airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital. 

A 54-year-old woman from Northampton has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

She has been released on police bail pending further enquiries. 

Northamptonshire Police are appealing for witnesses. 

And detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are also seeking dash-cam footage that may have captured the collision. 

A police spokesperson said: ‘At about 4.05pm yesterday (Monday, July 28), a collision occurred between a girl and the driver of a black Toyota Auris car at the pedestrian crossing.

‘As a result of the collision, the girl was airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital.

‘Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit would like to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage that captured any part of the collision.’ 

They police have said anyone with information should email CollisionAppeals@northants.police.uk or call the Drivewatch Hotline on 0800 174615, or Northamptonshire Police on 101.

They have asked that witnesses quote incident number 25000442555 when providing any information to make sure it gets to the right person as quickly as possible.
