Scarlett Moffatt and Vito Coppola are crowned Strictly Come Dancing Christmas champions after scoring a perfect 40 from the judges

Scarlett Moffatt and Vito Coppola have been crowned winner of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special.

Viewers of the BBC show saw funnyman Babatunde Aléshé, 39, singer Brian McFadden, 45, Gladiators star Jodie Ounsley, 24, All Saints legend Melanie Blatt, 50, and EastEnders actor Nicholas Bailey, 54, battle it out to lift the Glitterball Trophy to be named the Strictly Christmas Champion.

Scarlett, 35, and her partner Vito, 33, danced a Cha Cha to Cher’s DJ Play A Christmas Song and received an amazing 40 out of 40 from judges Shirley Ballas, 65, Craig Revel Horwood, 60, Oti Mabuse, 35, and Anton Du Beke, 59.

When asked what she felt like after being crowned winner of the special, Scarlett – who shot to fame on Gogglebox in 2014 – said: ‘This is amazing! I feel like I should have prepared a speech!

‘This is honestly the greatest gift that could have ever happened at Christmas.

‘We’ve all just had the best time!’

Previously speaking about their performance, Vito said: ‘Our dance is a Cha Cha Cha and is a pure celebration.

‘I think we are the first couple in Strictly to dance to this song since Cher performed it on the show a few years ago.

‘Honestly, the choreography is quite challenging. I have tried to challenge Scarlett.

‘It’s very quick. It’s faster than a normal Cha Cha tempo, but we can do it! It’s got momentum and we’ve crammed a lot in the short space of time that we have.’

Scarlett added: ‘There’s a lot of spins, a lot of silver, and it’s just very camp! It’s like a club scene, I spin around in a big bauble, I get thrown around – it’s full on! But still very technical.’

‘We have worked on technique to make it very precise, sharp and accurate and also just a big celebration to really try and get everyone involved.

‘For me personally, when I choreograph a dance, I always look for moments when we can spread out some joy, happiness and sparkle to the people, a moment when we want to bring people into our bubble.

‘We want people to feel that they can join in and dance with us – we want people to dance along at home!’ Vito added.

Gogglebox favourite Scarlett has a dancing background in the past, having been classified as a semi-professional ballroom and Latin dancer when she was younger.

Scarlett said of taking part in the show: ‘I’ve never moved this much! My favourite position normally is seated, but I have honestly loved it.

‘It’s fun finding out that you’ve got muscles that you didn’t know you had. That’s been quite cool.

‘It’s made me feel so proud, because Vito will show me a move, and I think there’s no way on this earth that I can do that, and then after a while, I’m like “Oh, I can do it!”.

‘So there’s a big sense of pride.’

The Lioness star beat her fellow contestants Amber Davies and George Clarke to the lift the Glitterball Trophy.

Aptly dressed in a football kit, she said: ‘I cannot believe it. I just want to say thank you to everyone who has followed our journey and supported us.’

In a grateful nod to Carlos, she added: ‘Thank you to this wonderful gentleman – we are a team and I couldn’t have done it without you.
