RUBEN AMORIM’S position as Manchester United manager is in major doubt after his criticism of the club hierarchy.
Amorim’s position is uncertain after his astonishing attack on the United board following Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Leeds.
The 40-year-old complained about his ‘head coach’ title and insisted he be referred to as the ‘manager’.
And Amorim aimed another thinly-veiled jibe at director of football Jason Wilcox after a move for Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo failed to materialise.
Amorim promised he would not quit but demanded more control amid a transfer window stand-off.
United were prepared to sign Semenyo before Manchester City emerged as the frontrunners.
It is unclear if Amorim wanted Semenyo or preferred to strengthen another area of the squad.
United plan to overhaul their central midfield but not until the summer.
Eight first team players have missed the last two games and United have won only three of their past 11 matches.

Despite that poor return, United briefly rose to fifth in the Premier League after coming from behind to gain a point at Leeds.
Amorim had hinted at issues behind the scenes before he effectively challenged the United hierarchy to back him or sack him at Elland Road.

United have rarely spent in winter transfer windows since the mid-season coup of Bruno Fernandes in January 2020.
Both winter arrivals last year – Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven – were club-led signings that Amorim approved.
Amorim revealed on Boxing Day he sometimes has to find “common ground” with former Southampton director of football Wilcox.
Wilcox worked with United chief executive Omar Berrada at City before the pair moved to United in 2024.
United’s director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, also appeared to be in the firing line during Amorim’s outburst.
It came after a report claimed Vivell expressed frustration at United’s 1-1 draw with Fulham in August.
After the game, Fulham manager Marco Silva and midfielder Alex Iwobi outlined how they exploited Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.
