Ruben Amorim’s dismal Man Utd record laid bare with just SEVEN league wins in 300 days and humiliating Grimsby defeat

RUBEN AMORIM’S dismal Manchester United record has been laid bare after Wednesday’s humiliating defeat at Grimsby.

The Red Devils were left red-faced as they crashed out of the Carabao Cup to the League Two side.

Grimsby delighted their home fans by racing into a two-goal lead.

United fought back in the second half after sending on big guns including Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes.

But the hosts held firm in a tense penalty shootout, winning 12-11 to spark a celebratory pitch invasion by supporters.

For the visitors though, the shock loss marked a new low point in Amorim’s dismal reign.

The Portuguese boss replaced Erik ten Hag in November last year, bringing with him a new 3-4-3 formation and a supposed bundle of fresh ideas.

However, 300 days after his first game in the United dugout, Amorim’s record does not hold up well to scrutiny.

His opening match resulted in a 1-1 draw against lowly Ipswich.

And although Amorim bounced back with successive wins against Bodo/Glimt in Europe and Everton in the league, United then went on to lose to Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.

A surprise win over rivals Man City was followed by FOUR defeats in a row.

And Amorim was never able to steady the ship as United’s topsy-turvy run continued throughout the season.

TRANSFER NEWS LIVE – KEEP UP WITH ALL THE LATEST FROM A BUSY SUMMER WINDOW

His side eventually finished 15th while also suffering a morale-crushing Europa League final defeat to fellow strugglers Tottenham.

Despite the results, Amorim was backed in the summer transfer window as United splashed £200million on a new front line.

But three games in, the Red Devils are yet to win.

Their league campaign started with defeat to Arsenal and was followed by a draw at Fulham.

In total, Amorim has won just SEVEN Premier League matches as United boss.

When combined with all other competitions, he has only 17 wins from 45 outings.

Nine of those games have ended in draws, with the other 19 being defeats.

United’s goal difference is also poor, standing at just 3 with 70 scored and 67 conceded.

And despite being a Carabao Cup clash, last night’s defeat to Grimsby left Amorim seething.

He said: “Everything (went wrong). The way we started the game, we were not even here. When everything is so important in our club, everything that happened, it’s a problem in our club.

“We should do so much better. I just have to say sorry to our fans. I felt my players spoke really loudly today what they want. I think it’s easy for you (to interpret).

“In the penalties, the feeling is the same, the football was really fair today, the best team won.

“That is more than a result, that is the biggest problem in the team, I think it was really clear today.

“I have nothing to say, that is the biggest problem also. To see the same mistakes and nothing to say, I’m really sorry to our fans.

“You cannot change so much in one summer, you need to win games. I think something has to change.”
