Rory McIlroy’s wife Erica leads Ryder Cup WAGs out in force on day one at Bethpage

With an action-packed first day of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, the wives and girlfriends of Team USA and Team Europe flocked to Long Island to support their significant others.

It was an emotional morning as Team Europe won three of four foursome matches to get off to a hot start. But – as things currently stand – Team USA is fighting back to put a dent into their lead.

All the while, the WAGs watched on in matching outfits to reflect their respective sides.

Most of Europe fit with a theme – navy and some variation of yellow. Erica Stoll, the wife of Rory McIlroy, wore a straw colored hat and blouse and was seen with golf jewelry on – including a Patek Philippe Nautilus watch.

Jon Rahm’s wife, Kelley Cahill, followed a similar theme with a blue blazer over an off-white blouse as she was seen sitting on her man’s lap on a golf cart.

Team Europe’s ‘First Lady’ led the charge. Luke Donald’s wife, Diane wore the same colored blazer with a white blouse and white shorts.

Team USA, however, was more directly coordinated.

All of the wives on the course were decked out in the same navy Polo brand shirt with the letters ‘USA’ on the right and an American flag over the heart.

The outfit was finished with a pair of white trousers. Some wore navy hats with the American flag on it as well.

It was much more sporty attire than the elegant dresses worn by the wives and girlfriends of both Team USA and Team Europe earlier this week.

At a gala located in nearby Sands Point on Long Island’s north shore, the women of the Ryder Cup stunned in their attire while Team USA drew controversy.

As the golfers and their better halves turned up, the European team arrived in tailored suits, striped shirts, ties, and black dress shoes.

The Americans, on the other hand, also arrived in suits. They also all wore white dress shirts without any ties and the top buttons open.

But the biggest misstep, in the eyes of some, was their choice to wear white leather sneakers.

Fans took to social media blasting the design choice – especially as their casual appearance clashed with not only the classy outfits of their rivals, but also the attire of their partners.

In the morning foursomes, Team Europe continued their strong form from 2023 at the Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome.

Xander Schauffele and playing partner Patrick Cantlay were the only American team to win their matchup – defeating Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland 2-Up.

But it was a horrendous result for the other Americans: Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley lost 5&3 to Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick; Collin Morikawa and Harris English lost 5&4 to Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood; and Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas lost to Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton 4&3.
