ROBSON Green has landed himself a role in an upcoming detective drama ahead of the last ever season of Grantchester.
The actor played the character of Geordie Keating in the beloved ITV series, which first aired on screens back in 2014.
Last year, ITV announced that Grantchester wouldn’t be renewed after its eleventh series.
But fans of Robson thankfully will still get to see him on screen again, as he’s set to star in the BBC’s new show The Northumbria Mysteries.
Robson will play the lead role of Joe Ruby, a jack-of-all trades kind of fellow who is also an ex-convict and gambler.
He will go around Northumberland alongside Oxford-educated DI Rose O’Connell unravelling a series of crimes.
Set against the beautiful backdrop of Northumberland, Robson expressed his excitement about the new show.
He shared how he was “happy to be working”, especially in a place he was still “very proud to call home”.
Robson also described Northumberland’s gorgeous landscape as “a principal character” in itself.
Speaking further on the dynamic between Joe and DI Rose, Robson shared: “Set against this amazing backdrop, you have this really unusual, likeable and oddball pairing, who slowly realise they have a connection.
“They’re trying to work out what that connection is and then later on through the series, what to do with that connection.”
Lonesome Pine Productions in Newcastle is creating the new crime drama, and their executive producer Lesley Douglas is elated to have Robson as the show’s lead.
She said she “could not be happier to have Robson Green lead the cast.”
Lesley also noted how “working with the BBC to realise [the show’s] characters has been a labour of love.”
Last July, the creator and writer of Grantchester, Daisy Coulan, officially confirmed that the series would end after its eleventh series.
She shared in a statement: “At its heart, Grantchester is a show about the power of friendship and love.
“We’ve been so lucky over the last 11 series’ to experience that on and off screen. I’ll miss you terribly.”
Throughout the show, Robson has acted alongside various sidekicks or co-leads.
Robson’s original sidekick was James Norton, who played the role of Sidney Chambers.
Then in seasons four through to nine, Tom Brittney (Will Davenport) took the reigns and assisted Robson on solving crimes.
Rishi Nair (Alphy Kotteram) took over the role following Tom’s departure from the show.
The final episodes of the programme are scheduled to air in early 2027.
