De Zerbi, 46, has become a serious candidate as the North Londoners’ hierarchy are hesitant to go down the caretaker route again.

And Tottenham have been given hope that the former Brighton chief will take the job.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports De Zerbi is open to accepting Spurs’ offer of a five-year deal.

He was initially against the idea of heading into the dugout with last term’s Europa League winners just ONE POINT above the dreaded drop zone.

But, in a shock U-turn, De Zerbi is prepared to save Tottenham’s season after being given guarantees that he can dive into the transfer market to build a strong squad.

The promises were made after influential figures behind the scenes have been pushing hard to change his mind.

It has been claimed that the coming hours will be crucial as both parties look to reach an agreement, with De Zerbi braced for further talks.

Spurs’ top target has been out of management since being sacked by Marseille last month.

And some Tottenham fans have already made it clear that they do not want De Zerbi in charge.

Prominent Spurs LGBT supporter group Proud Lilywhites are furious after he backed Mason Greenwood while at Marseille.

But De Zerbi could be at the helm when Spurs return to action with a trip to Sunderland on April 12.

Tottenham are planning to make an appointment before those on international duty return to North London.

Bruno Saltor, who was Tudor’s assistant, is leading training sessions in the meantime.

The likes of Sean Dyche and Spurs legend Robbie Keane, currently in charge of Ferencvaros, have been flagged as alternatives.
