Rioting erupts on streets of Salford after ’60 masked youths’ set fire to car, assault officer and smash windscreens

Riots have reportedly erupted in Salford after a gang of youths set a vehicle on fire and assaulted a police officer.

Dozens of youths have reportedly caused chaos on Lower Broughton Road this afternoon after several vehicles, including a police car, were wrecked and at least one was set on fire.

Pictures from the scene show the smouldering wreckage of one car, while several others have had their bodywork dented and windscreens smashed in.

Videos shared on Facebook, supposedly from the scene, also show several masked youngsters launching projectiles at police officers and riding through the streets on dirt bikes.

Greater Manchester Police said they have arrested one person on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

A ‘dispersal order’ is currently in place for the area as officers deal with the ‘serious disorder’, the force added.
